Please note that this does not have a GPS antenna (so cant use as GPS in car) and doesn't work with the PayPal swipe gadget (or anything similar)

My memory is foggy, but is there an Amazon deadline to update or fix something concerning a service or hardware/software? I'm sure its nothing major but I hate fuzzy memory before an impulse buy..lol

Can you still cyanogenmod these if you buy them new? I assume they come with a newer FireOS release. If so, does CM run well?

I use slimrom, picked them up during last year end for $35, modded it a month ago since fireos was boring. They work great...

What does that mean slimrom for $35. You bought it? Where? I do not see it on your link.

I bought one last time it was at 40 and love it. It replaced my battery issue ridden unbranded tablet as my magazine reader and traveling Web browser. Standby battery life is amazing. It will last me a week or so with light daily reading.

So far I have just side loaded a few non amazon apps, but a rom is definitely in the near future. Amazon including the SD card slot was a welcome addition, and every os update seems to be focused on getting it more capable.

It's a tablet good enough to use (casually) and not worry about it's safety if the kids pick it up.

The brightness does not go low enough for dark room reading, but there are apps that work to get it even dimmer. The GPS works for location finding apps and websites (weather or shopping stuff) but not for Navigation.
