Are posts like this mod alert worthy anymore?

Diamonique 3,962 1,091 May 1, 2016 at 09:26 AM
Is a post like this one I copy/pasted and linked to below worthy of a mod anymore? I was told it was just a reply and continuing the deal discussion going on when I tried reporting it. I won't try alerting mods in the future if these types of posts are allowed now.

"Feel what you've earned"?? WTF?? You haven't "earned" shit if you keep calling in crying for discounts and then threatening to cancel if you don't get any... The TRUE loyal customers that actually PAY their bills in full without any discounts and on time, that have been with DirecTV or any company for that matter for over 5 years are the people that actually "earn" and deserve promotions...

You crybabies are in for a rude awakening.. I have been reporting and showing management and corporate posts/threads like these that show and prove that people are just ABUSING the system and threatening to cancel just to get what they want... DTV is going to start letting people like you all go because it's costing the company more to keep cheap scumbags like yourself than it is to just cut ties altogether and actually use the money/discounts/promo's for people that actually do deserve and "earned" them...

You all are already seeing the push back with not being offered discounts anymore like you had in the past.... No one calling you back to come back or to not keep your cancel date...

They are also changing the way reps get paid out as far as bonuses... No more will reps get any bonus or bonus points for "saving" a cust with discounts... So what that will help with is a rep no longer offering discounts to keep a cheap skate like yourself just so they get the save and bonus... So if they're not going to be getting a bonus or compensation for keeping a cheapskate as a customer then they will no longer offer discounts to stay with DTV because they are going to be getting their bonuses by keeping people without giving discounts or credits...

What's going to be great is when the majority of you all call back to either get your service back on or to cancel the pending cancel date because you all were just trying to play games to get something that you DON'T deserve... Go ahead and go to Dish or whomever... Let them pay you and give you the cheap prices, because that will only get them even more in the red and in danger of having to shut down or be bought out by DirecTV/AT&T... And you'll be right back paying whatever DTV charges or you can just go to not having service if there is no other cable providers in your area....

Our forums survive on member engagement and feedback. That post isn't really breaking any rules other than our unspoken rule of "don't call".
If they do it repeatedly then it can be viewed as trolling and then it is breaking our rules...so if you MA it and there is more than one instance it's good to point that out.

I hope that helps clarify.

There's members engaging and debating with each other....and then there's posts like the one the OP quoted.

That user is pretty much insulting other SD users for trying to get a deal. It's on the same level as the posts that I recently MA'd by a particular SD user where they clearly called me a thief among other things. It's one thing to debate with others. It's a whole other for other users to resort to insulting other people for just trying to get a deal on something.

That's why I started this thread asking if posts like that were reportable anymore since I was told that post was just part of the ongoing discussion. It didn't seem like it was ok for a supposed employee of a company especially one like DTV to come here and openly insult members saying they were showing posts here and elsewhere to their bosses and hurling insults at members who were going the retention route instead of overpaying for services. That was also the first post by that person so to me it seemed like they were trolling at the very least.

I removed the "crybaby" comment..

But the poster is debating whether or not doing the call in to threaten to cancel is a good ploy.

I see many members shot that down but that is debating the whole point of the deal/thread.

Although they claim to be showing posts to management.. they could be emailing it in the the company, I don't see where they say they work for the company.

The whole first sentence seems a bit confrontational to me as well.

Personally I used to be one of the usual shnook consumers and just buy junk at MSRP. But I guess since I want to at least feel like I'm getting a deal I must be a crybaby or whiner for asking for discounts instead of paying the quoted price.

Either they work for the company and are blindly loyal or they are just trolling people for a response.

Then again I had a tech here from Comcast a couple weeks ago and the guy was pretty rabidly loyal to his employer even making comments about people whose houses he did work for who felt like they besmirched his employer.

I guess I can see it from their point of view in that they figure if the company is paid less, they make less money and they may try and short the employees somehow(maybe).

every mod alert is worthy

not every mod alert warrants action

we cannot assume user(s) work for companies without proof

we cannot verify whether someone actually did what they say in a post (i.e. calling the merchant verifying a price mistake, buying 10 of the same item, etc..)

there are many posts like this all over hot deals and this one particular post is mild compared to others in hot deals. this post was in deal talks.

deals discussion is healthy and encouraged. personal opinions are allowed whether someone agrees or not.

He does work for the company and says so in his only other SD post which is only two posts later in the same thread.:
http://slickdeals.net/f/140292-directv-customers-free-offers-to-stay-with-directv?p=84476907#post84476907

"Only other thing you can do if you want to get DTV for really cheap or free, then go work for them or AT&T... AT&T employees don't get it completely free like we do, but they get a huge savings and only pay $10 for the package and I believe that includes the receiver(s) and fee's like HD, DVR, etc.. but the premium ch's they have to pay regular price, but honestly, it's still more than half off the premium pack... "

So the man joins SD and immediately navigates 5000+ posts in on a thread about his company to complain about his company's "scumbag" customers' postings on Slickdeals. But it is okay with mods? I would think even DTV would be embarassed.

Discussion is fine. It's when users insult other members of the user base of the site that I take issue.

If I were still the way I was when I was on CAG, I probably would've gotten into more than a few back and forth wars of words with people who thought my actions for a deal were reprehensible and let me know in so many insulting words.

But lately I've just MA'd the insults and they're gone in short order.

tl;dr version: It's fine to have differing opinions. But when users are insulting each other that's when it crosses a line imo.

TIL calling people "scumbags" is considered healthy and is encouraged by SD mods.

I believe that he is referencing the part of the post that was MA'd that said this:

It was referenced earlier in this thread by KulisKoulomb on the 6th...

Just seems odd that "crybabies" was removed but not "scumbags," even after it was brought up before. Since that post was analyzed so much, the implication is that is acceptable.

No I just missed it while multitasking, my apologies. I have edited the post.
