Hi all, I noticed the Imperial Shuttle Tydirium 75094 sale but have to let you all know it's a tad bigger than just that! Several sets are on sale. You get a free mini fig (w/ $50 spend), double VIP points, free poster, and free shipping. Sale goes thru May 4th, click for details [lego.com]. I'm not advocating this is a phenomenal sale (all you 10 cpp or bust people!) but it's a warm deal if you've been on the fence about some retail priced sets or one or two that went on sale, plus free shipping if you don't live by a store that sells Lego.
  • NEW Set released this weekend, Assault on Hoth 75098 [lego.com] for $249, Ultimate Collector's Series. Play heavy set, but UCS nonetheless. This one is not on sale.

And more: Linky [lego.com]

For those that care about sets retiring soon, the Sandcrawler 75059 [lego.com] will be gone very very soon and the price will skyrocket.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Hey big bear balls! Typically these big sets jump by 50% give or take for 6 months after retirement, then decline after the initial surge. After that, it's usually a gradual incline as time goes on. An excellent investment if you know what you're doing!

For example, 10240 Red V X-Wing was $199 retail, retired 4 months ago and goes for $300-350 on ebay.

How much do you think the sandcrawler will go up to once it's retired?

I'm surprised TRU and Amazon have not announced any special price reductions similar to this.

It really depends on the model. The UCS super star destroyer doubled in price within 6 months, then slowed considerably. The Tumbler increased by 50% within 2 weeks--jury is out on the value at the 6-month point. The crawler, I'd be a bit more worried about as there was a previous UCS model, and it's not all that popular. The much maligned UCS B-wing is going for about 20% above MSRP nearly 3 years after its retirement...

But it has so many sweet mini figs, a bunch that are obscure droids! Also, isn't that what you want? Either it to be super popular, so it's always in demand or to be "not popular" so it's somewhat more rare down the line. Rather than in the middle of demand where it's price point languishes over time.

(Honestly, if Darth Maul's face can be worth what it is I would hope a model from the three original movies would appreciate in value at a better pace.)

crawler has some play features but lack of display capability, which may affect its value down the road.

The problem is that all we have is the millennium falcon which is on its third edition and the tie fighter. All the other great star wars toys like the star destroyer, a wing, b wing, x wing, death star at at, and others are retired or just plain out of stock. It would be really nice if Lego would actually release those again for us that didn't come around early enough into this. The sand crawler, hoth, and ewok village are neat but lets face it, they aren't the things you think of when you say star wars.

You can't judge the UCS maul face in that way--it was an early release set, and those are always in very limited supply. This is the second crawler, and multiple release sets don't do all that well. Doubling in price within a few years is likely a given, but beyond that I'd set the bar pretty low for this one.

At this point, most people who buy these UCS sets are doing so for investment purposes, and the odds of being opened are minimal. In any case, it's the figs that will carry most of the value when it comes to a set like this. Example, with the Ewok Village set, the figs go for about $160 on ebay, whereas the bare set goes for about $100. I've seen the previous crawlers go on ebay sans figs, and the price is extremely low.

That will certainly impact the value--have to agree with you there. I think the ewok village set would be a better investment honestly. Much less likely to be released again. All supposition of course, but I fully expect to see another "improved" sandcrawler again maybe 5 years after this one is retired. Lego just won't leave the original trilogy stuff alone.

Hey! Sorry, I don't understand your question? Maybe I do, are you asking if the "Exclusive" sets ever go on sale? Sometimes they do, but it's been a long time since that has happened.
