I've been watching this coffee maker ranked 2nd in many tests compared to $300 coffee makers.

usually this runs around 118 on amazon but on average 125 on various websites.

tonight it is 95.48 on amazon Bonavita BV1800 8-Cup Coffee Maker with Glass Carafe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005YQZ...kxbK2HEDHP

prime free shipping of course.

now if you are daring, amazon warehouse has "used" for 76. I've had good luck with their warehouse deals.

sorry I'm posting from my phone.

What's the big deal with this, that it's glass?

I'd say this is a FP worthy deal. I bought one a few weeks ago & loving it. Be forewarned though, you will start spending more $ on good coffee. You will likely acquire the taste for real coffee. The taste difference is 10X more flavor over regular drip coffee makers. You really taste the difference in blends & roasts. I'm excited to try different kinds & just bought a good grinder. I'm hooked ☺

amen!
I use the aeropress but after almost two years my wife says no mas! although coffee with aeropress is great to make 3 cups is kind of a pain. burr grinder. if you love coffee, you invest in a good coffee maker. supposedly the has the best drip action. who knows...but I'll find out Thursday morning!

they have insulated SS but it's the coffee maker itself that is highly ranked.

I love this machine but I have the steel one, not glass. I guess a ton of the glass ones exploded because the glass temperature changed too quickly. I only read that in random reviews so I have no firsthand knowledge of it. The upside was the glass kept the coffee hotter longer, which is my only issue with the steel version.

The glass lined stainless carafe had the problems, I think they stopped making them. Sears has this one & stainless version on sale, add tax of course.

if I drank coffee more often - I'd buy this - I was more a tea drinker (this might work w/ some jiggering), but gave it up since I noticed I would get severe withdrawal symptoms if I didn't "get my fix" of caffeine - which made me feel very dirty....but thumbs up for the design and simplicity - the video is basically exactly what Alton Brown said on True Brew on Good Eats. 2tbs coffee for every 6 oz cup.

Is it hot enough? My Oxo is crap with the heat. I am returning it.

Heating element is what this thing is known for.... comes out at my house right around 190 F. Not mcDonalds hot, but the temp the coffee enthusiasts like.

While cleaning this (or any other I suppose) carafe, make sure, you don't use cold water while the carafe is still hot, either let it cool down or use hot water to rinse it, or else it'll develop cracks.

A good price, but be sure to read the "Customer Questions & Answers" section at the link. There are apparently a lot of folks who did everything right and still had this glass carafe shatter:

http://www.amazon.com/reviewers-t...B005YQZT92

I suspect they switched to stainless steel for a reason.

I suspect this is cheap for the exact same reason, too.

It is not the glass carafe ones that had the issue are the stainless steel carafe that was glass lined. It is not the one that is on sale right now.

I deal with these, and other makers, on a daily basis. This is the best drip coffee maker at this price. The other options you might have are a Mocchamaster or OXO Barista Brain which cost more. I personally prefer hand poured drip, but if you want it automated this it the way to go.
