I've seen these before-- they look pretty nice. I have a nexus 6, though, and i'm not sure that the magnet would hold the phone.

They hold the iPhone 6 Plus, which I think would mean it would hold the nexus. They are a similar size, I believe.

I tried one and the magnet held it but it also did not let the screen unlock. The unlock screen would show but when you tired to unlock it the home screen and all others would be black. Very strange. Also the wireless charging function stopped working with the magnet attached. I tried different locations for the magnet and eventually i found a place that let my screen work but it was so far off center that it wouldn't hold it anymore. Great concept but no functionality for me. If it works for your phone, and you do not use wireless charging its great. Tried it out with my wife's Galaxy s6 and it worked great.

Thanks for the replies. I think I might try out the $4.99 one. I dont use the wireless charging, so that would be no big loss to me. As long as it holds the phone, I'd be happy.

I am also.not convinced about magnetic holders. I would like to find something good, cheap, cd slot mountable and with good clamps. I have an Xperia Z3 regular

Jjjjoe, my son has the Nexus 6, and you don't need to use the metal plate things with that phone. it has metal in the build, so it sticks by itself. I'm not sure about the screen lock, but thought i'd share that the wireless charging doesn't have to be lost with these. (at least with the nexus)

Greatest things since sliced bread if they work for ya!!! Been using some cheap ones I picked up on ebay for about 3 years and they're awesome. All 10 that I've purchased on Ebay from China have really strong magnets in them.

You wouldn't be even trying to use it if you understand how induction charging works. A big metal plate in between the coils would undoubtedly interfere with the charging. Could also overheat and damage the phone.

The magnet would probably hold an 8" tablet just fine.

These only work if you have a shallow cd mount. If yours is surrounded by extra trim or anything, it won't work.

Ha, I've experienced the same thing with my S5. Between that and not being able to wirelessly charge I have switched to clamping mounts.
