Pentax K-50 16.0 Megapixel Digital SLR with 18-55mm WR Lens, 50-200mm WR Lens, & AF200FG Flash Bundle Kit
$359.99

Micro Center in store has some good deals on the Pentax K-50 DSLR. The better deal is the bundle since it comes with 2 weather sealed lenses, a bag, and a flash.

This is a decent beginner DSLR. It is weather sealed, has in body image stabilization, has 2 adjustment dials, can use AA batteries in a pinch, and can use old Pentax lenses.

The disadvantage is the low resolution sensor, not that great video capabilities, and a louder auto focus motor.

We paid $199 net for the Pentax K-S2 bundle last December.

It exceeds expectations.

My goal is to get better at photography by moving to a DSLR. The longer goal is to get into videography. Would I be better better off with the Nikon D3300? Those are much easier to get good deal with. I'm not traveling up to Boston to go to Microcenter. It's too bad they don't deliver. Very few deals are posted on this camera.

I think the D3300 will be better at video.

I.would look for a different model unless you plan to buy an extended warranty and be ok with potential aperture motor failing (mine did)

specifics of why the d3300 would be better. pentax makes great camera and some of their their tech surpasses nikon and canon. they are cheaper as they dont advertise as much as canon and nikon. for video the t6i or even the t5i would be better than d3300. video has always been a strong point for canon. this camera is weather sealed has double dial controls like a pro level camera. solid deal

When did the T5i and T6i come into the conversation? I can name plenty of camera's that are better than those for video. The T5 is more of a direct competitor to the D3300 and the D3300 wins that battle by a landslide. It's just hard to beat the D3300 in the battle of entry level DSLRs. Don't get me wrong this a good deal for people looking to get their first DSLR.

To save the people some time: Pentax camera is good if you want very good image qualities without paying an outrageous sum.

Sure, if you want to get a Canon 5D Mark III with a 24-70mm L lens by all means, go ahead, the images will look much better but you'll also spend considerably more.

The reason Pentax is niche is because they focus more on image quality, good lens selections, and user interface. It has nothing to do with marketing budgets. I bought the KS2 bundle for Costco for $499 and the video is shit, even with a quality lens on it. Nobody buys Pentax for video production.

There are professional photographers using Pentax's for weddings and whatnot and the pictures look great.

I understand the limitations of my camera and Pentax system in general. If you just want very good images, with color and contrast competitive with full frame DSLR's, then you might want to consider a Pentax.

Pentax's bread and butter are their lenses. Their DA Limited Series and FA Limited Series are some of the best bang for your buck for any system. Plenty of Sony, and even Canon users with converters buying up Pentax Glass for use on their bodies. The saddest stories are all the Sony A6000 users who love their bodies and sensors, but cannot find Sony glass that 1) suits their budget or 2) comes in a focal length they need. Plenty of stories on Pentax Forums about Sony DSLR users with their converters. These people find out the hard way, that when shopping for a DSLR, you need to start with the glass.

Just received my new camera from microcenter!

I figured for the price I cannot lose money... I could sell the camera right now for $350-400 or I could use the camera for a year and sell it for $250-300 based on what the previous generation k-30s are selling for on eBay currently.

Sure Pentax is not as popular as Canon or Nikon. But for the price you cannot match this camera. It is weather sealed, dust sealed. The lens is weather resistant. 100% pentaprism viewfinder. 921k screen resolution, wifi capable

The k-50 uses the "k-mount" lens which dates back to 1975. There are plenty of lenses to choose from, I am sick of hearing the age old "Pentax doesn't have as many lenses".. are you really going to buy every lens? LOL
