this looks to be an updated model that has a removeable lens hood. I bought one similar, same 8mm f3.5, but then lens hood was fixed. great lens

This or a 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6? In the market for a wide angle and the fisheye effect sounds like fun also.

To be fair, these are two different lenses. If I had to pick one or the other, I would pick 10-18 for more flexibility - 8mm is very niche, and you'll most likely end up using it less often than you'd think. Definitely has it's place for those crazy distorted fun shots / clips, but don't choose it over a more practical lens. You should also look into the Tokina 11-16 2.8.. great ultra wide angle lens for the price, and a fixed aperture of 2.8 throughout the (albeit limited) zoom range ??

Fisheye != wide angle

The fisheye lens is more of a specialty lens and the wide angle will be of more use to you IMO. Fisheyes are fun, but I rarely use them over a ultra wide angle.

Does your camera have a focus peaking option? If so enable it and see if that helps.

the description in the Amazon page says it's full frame. is it not really correct and merely compatible with full frame cameras?
