If you can manage to flip the keyboard/pen for a decent price to put towards getting the newer keyboard/pen (which are much better) then yeah, pretty decent deal.

There really isn't all that huge of a difference between the SP3 and 4, in my opinion. Surely not $600 between the i7 SP3 and SP4. The improvements in the keyboard and pen are more tangible the changes in the actual device. The SP4 is a bit thinner and lighter but again, not $600 worth of difference. In my opinion.

I scored an i3/64GB SP3 on eBay late last year for $365 and it looked practically brand new with one very minor cosmetic flaw. I haven't wanted another computer since I got this thing. I added an SP4 type cover and now it is perfect!

I'm jelly... For me It's between not having the money as well as my Asus Zenbook ux32vd from 2012 hasn't crapped out yet, but if either one of those turn around I'd probably jump on getting a SP3-4 (maybe even 5 later on) or surface book..

discussion from when this was previously posted

IMO id just wait for the pro 4 to go down in price - not much of a difference between i5 and i7 skylake in terms of benchmarks so you could just end up getting an i5 skylake when the new pro 5 comes out and hopefully the pro 4 goes on sale. For the pro 3 the keyboard and pen are major downgrades anyways when you compare it to pro 4.

Also i thought the pro 3 had throttling issues due to poor heat dissipation which has been fixed in pro 4.

Does this come in one box, or is the type cover in a separate box?

You are better off with the surface 4 typecover and pen.

Right, which is why I'm trying to determine how easy it would be to sell the type cover this comes with as "brand new". Do you know if the type cover comes in a separate box?

Yes the keyboard comes in its own box. The pen and surface come in a box together.
This is what you will receive

But it may not be easy to sell now that a much better pen and keyboard have come out. Not many people want the SP3 keyboard/pen anymore.

Whole Bundle comes in 1 Brown Box. But Items are individually packed in their original packaging.
