Generators with Honda GX (steel sleeved) engines $600 and more @home depot free shipping 5-5-16

Ariens Model # 986055 Internet # 206883946 7,500-Watt Gasoline Powered Electric Start Portable Generator with Honda GX Engine $600 [homedepot.com]

Ariens Model # 986061 Internet # 206874727 7,500-Watt Gasoline Powered Electric Start Portable Generator with Honda GX Engine $600 [homedepot.com]

Ariens Model # 985054 Internet # 206883961 5,000-Watt Gasoline Powered Manual Start Portable Generator with Subaru EX Engine $400 [homedepot.com]

Personal note: My 11 hp pressure washer and my 13 hp generator are both honda GX steel sleeved engines, are both over 10 years old and start with 3 pulls after sitting for long periods. I have no experience with the generator portion of ariens machines above. The Honda engines in my opinion are hard to beat.

Best price I could get was at electric generators direct for $900.
Hope this helps.

2,000 Watt (models Gravely 98605600 & Ariens 98605700) = 3.0% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD)

5,000 Watt (models Gravely 98605100 & Ariens 98605400) = 4.6% THD*

7,500 Watt (models Gravely 98605200 & Ariens 98605500) = 4.1% THD*

*Specification is 5% max, depending on load.

Important: The 5,000 & 7,500 generators are not designed to run sensitive equipment such as computers and medical equipment. The Invertor generator has the only clean sine wave for sensitive equipment.

seems to be a good deal since this is mostly 900 dollars on Internet. this has OSHA GFCI outlets. decent warranty. however, keep in mind this is best for a job site. I could not l find any claims on the THD total harmonic distortion. this is a measure of how clean the sin wave is. think clean power. dirty power can harm sensitive electronics which could show up as failure or decreased lifetime. over all, a very good deal for jobsite and people who don't care about THD

That's what I should have said as in iron sleeved.

You are right. An inverter might be better for sensitive electronics. Here are the specs from the Ariens site:

based on the specs you found, I may not be too worried about using it for sensitive electronics. I think most generations that advertise THD generally say less than 5% THD total which should be ok to electronics

Was planning on buying a couple of Invertor generators and run them parallel, but this is tempting.

I'm curious for some clarification here, as well. I've seen many generators advertised as 'safe for electronics' due (only) to <5% THD. That said, I've seen others that claim 'Clean Sine' or 'True Sinusoidal' power in addition to low THD as the reason they are safe for sensitive electronics. Since Ariens doesn't have 'Clean Sine' or similar, I'm guessing that is why they don't say it's safe for sensitive electronics.

Can anyone in the know clarify? Thanks in advance!

If its not an inverter(pure sine wave) generator it may not work well with some sensitive electronics.

These dont seem to be inverter type but rather a level above the normal generators as they have reliable honda engines.

I will say I have run a really high end samsung 55 inch and home theater system + dish system on a 1700 watt el cheapo from Lowes and none of the devices seemed to care but I probably shouldn't have.

These engines are made in china right? Not that it automatically kills the deal or anything, but I think it should be mentioned. It sounds like it might have some features other chinese made units do not, plus they are designed by a reputable brand.

Wow, would it be noisy? I used to have a gas generator, it was about 2000w. Glad to see this deal in the morning.

Subaru small engines are some of the best made engines in the world...literally. They are comparable only to Honda and some Kohlers. Infinitely better than Tecumseh or Briggs & Stratton. Ask any competition go kart guy which engine manufacturer is best, and you'll get the Honda or Subaru answer. Definitely NOT made in China...never were.

Here's directly from Wikipedia: Subaru Industrial Power Products is the brand name for products manufactured by the Industrial Products division of Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), which were previously sold under the Robin, Subaru-Robin and Wisconsin Robin brand. The line is now sold under the Subaru brand, used by FHI's automobiles for greater brand recognition.

They manufacture commercial-grade engines, portable generators and de-watering construction pumps. The company’s United States headquarters is located in Lake Zurich, Illinois. Subaru industrial engines, sold worldwide, are manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) in North America and Japan. Subaru’s annual engine production exceeds one million and is the fourth largest engine manufacturer in the world.
