I bought this last year. Keyboard is nice but the key lettering is hard to see without the light on, for which there is no adjustment and it's on/ off with no auto-off.

The mouse LED light stays on even when the computer hibernates, and the scroll wheel started squeaking within a few weeks which is annoying. So I'm looking to buy a new mouse but will keep the keyboard.

I had the same issue with my mouse. After fighting with their terrible CS, they replaced the mouse. After a few weeks the same thing happened to the replacement mouse. Quality control anyone? Don't buy this unless you have no need for the mouse and just want the keyboard.

Thanks, but I'll pass on this. Going to wait for deal on decent wired mechanical keyboard. Anyone tried the hybrid "purple" keyswitches?

Ha!Ha!Ha! That's a good one! At least this rebate is through Cooler Master, and not NewEgg. I have not had any problems getting my rebates from NE, it's just that their "6 to 8 weeks" always takes ~12 weeks to get the rebate CHECK (they promise a Visa, etc. card about 30% of the rebates, but never send one, always a check). NE has most reliable and the slowest rebates in this arm of the galaxy.

Very true. The lettering is next to impossible to see unilluminated. I bought it only for the keyboard and it doesn't have a dedicated button for on/off (I think it's num pad and you have to find it and press it every reboot as there's no auto on.

The keyboard is pretty robust and the brightness is just right. It It doesn't have a lot of extra keys for macros and other purposes but it's not Spartan either; it has all the media keys (pause, play, skip etc).

The keys are very tactile and give good feedback without being too loud like some cherry switches.

Ergonomics are pretty good. I had no issues with the rebate. I have nicer keyboards but for whatever reason, this one is my DD.
Hope this helps

There's a video on YouTube detailing a mod to make the lights always-on instead of slaved to Scroll Lock.

I had the same problem with another mouse. what I did was holding down shift key when the computer is shutting off and it worked

I bought this because as far as inexpensive backlit keyboards go, it was one of the few with a normal US Enter key instead of the one that is on two rows. Scroll lock is annoying when using Excel, but love this keyboard overall. I haven't used the mouse as much, but no issues with it.

Looks like this [youtube.com] one. Top comment's method seems reasonable enough.

A hybrid of what and what now? Are you talking about the purple stemmed Zealios made by Gateron?

I saw these on Cooler Master's site when looking at their mechanical keyboard offerings. The purple key switch that I asked about is on their "Nova Touch TKL" keyboard. It's a "Hybrid Capacitive Switch". Looks pretty sweet from their description. Compatible with CherryMX Keycaps, 45g activation, 4mm travel, no chatter, tactile, & lifetime of >60 million keystrokes. Described as a "patented Japanese hybrid switch design", so I don't know who makes it.

Edit: I did a bit of Googling, and it looks like these hybrid switches are made by Topre Corp.
