Yes, I know you don't necessarily associate Whole Foods and Slickdeals, but I actually live a few blocks away from one(in the same shopping center as a CVS, lol), and I frequently stop in on the way back from the gym. No, they don't double coupons, and you usually can't get the outrageous deals that you can get at CVS or a conventional supermarket for that matter, but you can frequently get decent deals, not to mention lots of free samplesyummy And their '365' house brand is usually comparably priced to Trader Joe's, and cheaper than a comparable supermarket item. And maybe it's the economy, but I have noticed them getting considerably cheaper on some advertised items as of late.

Sales for Whole Foods stores are regional, although they seem to have some national deals on grocery items(canned and packaged foods). Sales tend to run on 2 and 4 week cycles, and new cycles tend to start on Wednesdays. They also tend to have regional sales, that run on the weekends or may also run on 2 week cycles(the "Madness" sales in the Northeast) that tend to feature regional deals like produce, meat, prepared food, bakery etc.

Your best bet to find out what's on sale at your local store, is to go to your store's website, which is located at www.wholefoodsmarket.com. Enter your zip code up top, and pick your store. In addition to the sales circular, there is often a calendar of store events, a twitter feed or facebook page.
One aspect of Whole Foods is that the stores tend to have a lot more "events" than a conventional supermarket. These can be promotions, contests,
sampling events, cooking classes. If your store calendar isn't posted online, there is always one at the store entrance. And while many of these promos are not worth a separate trip(though I have gotten some nice sample packs at times), if you are going to the store anyway, why not go when they are giving something away?

Whole Foods also distributes a coupon book in store, called "The Whole Deal". These are store coupons and are will NOT scan at other retailers, despite the bar codes. You should be able to combine them with a manufacturer coupon, but YMMV.

Get your meat marinated LMAO

on a separate note:

i went to buy some marinated organic chicken, meat counter person said they can't sell pre-marinated organic chicken, because the meat area has non-organic meats, and so once they process the organic meat, it is considered non-organic, even though in reality it is organic.

ahh, good to know.

however, once they give you this disclaimer, if you select a cut of prepackaged organic free range chicken, or organic grass fed beef or what have you, they will happily baste it in the marinade of your choice should you so want. which means while you shop around the store, and then drive home, the meat can marinate and then you can cook it as soon as you get home and put away the other groceries. it's a decent time-saver if you don't mind the brief contact with non-organic meats in the counter area - i figured it's a good option to keep in mind for when one is really crunched for time.

Yeah it probably isn't going to be a moneymaker at whole foods, although it can still work out to be a decent deal. A few weeks back I bought 7 boxes of the Health Valley cereal bars on sale for $3.00 each, using 2 of the $2 coupons, it was $17 for 7 boxes plus the $10 gift card. Doesn't sound too cheap for cereal bars, but those Organic Valley ones are yummy--they have a peanut butter one filled with chocolate cream that is really good and only 140 calories(doesn't seem possible lol).A similar deal this week would be the Garden of Eatin chips, which are on sale for 2 for $5, you could get 8 bags of chips for $16 using the coupons, and then get the $10 giftcard. But if you come up with anything let me know, i always have relatives whose addresses i can use for more gift cards...bounce

Also, just passed through the store, weekend madness deals(fri 8/22-sun 8/24 only)

Food Should Taste Good chips 2/$2.99(that's the cheapest i've ever seen them)
Boneless Sirloin 5.99/lb
Peaches .99/lb
Bread and Circus mini cookies(12 oz) 2.89
Salmon Kebabs 3.99/each
Antipasti bar 7.99/lb

The MS $2 Wellness brand coupon for dog or cat staff applies for their canned food. The doggie ones in a can are $1.79 in NorCal (didn't check for kitties).

No overage for me, but free + tax. HTH
What is the MS Coupon? Is that Mambo Sprouts book?

Yes, it is a coupon in the banned Mambo Sprouts. The coupon does work on the canned dog food, but it takes supervisor approval to get each coupon pushed through at $1.79.

That hasn't been my experience. On SEVERAL occasions at different WF stores, the checker scans coupon, register automatically adjusts coupon to 1.79 off. No supervisor required.

A few decent deals in the "Signpost" back to school coupon book

Rachel's yogurt is on sale for .60 until 9/2, there is a .25 coupon=.35
365 Mac + Cheese is .99, B1G1 coupon=.50 each

Oh also, I mentioned this in the Shaw's thread, Shaw's has Kashi Granola on sale for $3 this week, you should be able to use the $1 off coupon in the Mambo Sprouts book over there.

And the Clif Kids bar coupons in the Mambo Sprouts book are good until 12/31/08, I pick up a few free after coupon bars everytime i'm in the store!

Circular deals(8/27-9/2) CT+ MA only

BTW, I was in Washington DC a few weeks ago, and they definitely had many different weekly specials in a Whole Foods that I stopped in there. It looked like produce, bakery, and prepared foods had some different items on sale, the grocery items looked the same. So YMMV on specific items outside of CT + MA.

Corn 4/$1
Shrimp skewers .99 each
Vanilla + chocolate cupcakes 2.99/6 pack yummy
Beef shoulder chuck steak 3.99/lb
Santa Cruz organic lemonade 32 oz 1.25(i think the people in the Shaw's thread, have about a billion bottles of this, lol)
Pork sausage(store made) 2.99/lb
Cedar's Hommus 16 oz 2.50
Sonoma Chicken salad 6.59/lb(chicken breast, grapes, and pecans)
Hatch Chiles 1.99/lb
Ciolo(dips,spreads,pesto) 7 oz 2.99-3.99

Also, as previously noted, Rachel's yogurt is .35 with .25 off coupon in Back to School "signpost" booklet. And 365 Mac + Cheese is 2/.99 with coupon in the same booklet.

Yeah that newsletter is the replacement for the real deal one previously, it should be in the stores as well, and also have the mambo sprouts coupons in them.

As for Santa Cruz, I think your best bet is the lemonade, which is on sale for 1.25 through 9/2. The only other things I have seen by them at Whole Foods are various flavors of applesauce($4 a jar or so and not on sale), and some other juice products($4-6). HTH!

Thanks! I did end up getting 10 bottles of the Lemonade yesterday.. really hurt because I was planning on getting them free with overage at Shaws!!! 20 more coupons wasted..gave them to a couple that happened to be shopping in that aisle.. really hope they used them! I really screwed that up, lol! But I did finally pick up some Mambo Sprouts Qs, which are pretty awesome! Thanks again for keeping up w/ this thread!

Thanks! Stonyfield is a pretty good deal... I was wondering... do you think you could use a "store" coupon with a manu Q there?

Yeah I don't know, I've never tried that at Whole Foods! I have some Stonyfield coupons as well, and I didn't even think of that. But I would guess it's gonna be a big YMMV, they still look at me strangely at the local store when I give them their own coupons, ha, so I would guess that they might challenge you on 2 different coupons for the same item

And it really isn't much trouble maintaining the thread, but I appreciate all your nice comments! Smilie Basically, the store is on my walk home from the gym and in a shopping center with a CVS, so I usually stop in anyway. I used to never shop there very much, but I started noticing a few months ago that they started to have much better deals, at least on some items. So it takes only a few minutes, and they usually have some tasty free samples! drool

But it's definitely annoying that they don't put out a conventional circular like most other supermarkets. Maybe if business stays bad enough, they will start doing it!
