QNAP TS-451-US Diskless System 4-Bay NAS Personal Cloud Server with HDMI output, DLNA, AirPlay and PLEX Support.

$349 at Amazon, free shipping plus tax if applicable

Wasa front page deal last week for $369 at New Egg, but unless newegg is free of tax for you, this is a better deal.

Newegg just matched the price, will save on tax if you're outside of California http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...-_-Product

QNAP has good apps for Android and iOS. Not sure the windows server would do the same. It is more than just the hardware.

Once I saw this model was on sale earlier this year for about $270 I just can't pull the trigger. Want to upgrade from my ts-231.

I bought this a couple months back and despite the evidence it might not work well for Plex, I bought it hoping I would be fine. I am here to say that my streaming of 1080p on an all wired setup is far from effective. To be fair I think it is a software problem with Plex.

Can anyone back me up on this and if at all possible give some troubleshooting advice I would be very appreciative.

If you're all wired, why would you need to transcode? Just a waste of cpu power on the nas.

Edit: I don't use plex but can you specify when it transcode or not?

Is a sense of humor too much to ask? Seriously, get one.
