That is a $100 Harbor Freight engine. Are the pump, cart, hose, and wand worth $175?

I posted this same comment on Woot but just wanted to share.

I really want to like this because for the specs (PSI, Flow, Triplex Pump) the price is great but...

Karcher parts have been historically difficult to obtain (I have a 5 year old Karcher electric)

Only a 1 year warranty.. Cannot return to Woot.

Northern Tool has a Powerhorse 3000PSI 2.5GPM (w/ axial cam pump (-), adjustable pressure (+), on board detergent tank (+), 30ft hose (+), 2 year warranty(+) ) you can get for $269.99 shipped. I'm really thinking of going that route but I'm tempted by this.

All else being similar, I would opt for the machine that I could pick up locally to avoid any possible shipping damage and have local help, customer service, warranty, and returns.

Want one, but I don't know enough about these to know if this is a good deal.

Last week I ordered the Simpson version of this pump for $474 plus tax from Sams Club. Specs appear to be the same, except that the Simpson has a 196 cc "Honda GX200 Commercial" engine, and 2.8 GPM, which should equate to a little more cleaning power.
Anyone out there have specific knowledge of these CHondas (Chinese Honda clone) engines? Is there a real difference between the Karcher and Simpson engines?
By the way, nearly any seller, online or B&M, will force you to use an authorized service center instead of returning a pressure washer.

For the specs this is definitely a good deal. You're getting a lot of pressure, good flow, and the best quality style pump (triplex) for sub $300.

Your typical chinese engine 3000psi pressure washer can be purchased at many different retailers for about $300 regular price. Compare this one to the Powerstrokes at Walmart for example. Or here's an option from Home Depot with a similar engine and better pump specs for $269. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Excell.../202762810

Maybe not. Axial pump.

The example I linked to isn't reconditioned. Is the Karcher? And I'm not sure that an axial pump really matters all that much for home use. Irregardless, my point was that you can walk into many different stores any day of the week and get a machine with a similar chinese clone engine and similar specs for around $300.

You're right, you can walk into a store and get a similarly spec'd machine for around $300. But adding a triplex pump over a direct drive axial-cam (which agreed may not be meaningful to a typical homeowner) usually drives at least a $100 additional premium, this usually brings you into the $400 range. The two machines below both have axial-cam and are $399.

My mistake on reconditioned. The spec sheet showed a "reconditioned" column, followed by a "no" column. Weird.

Had I seen this deal a week ago, I would have been tempted to take a chance on it, being nearly half the price of most pressure washers with these specs. Nice find, OP. As for axial vs triplex pumps, I have been told that axial pumps have a life of as little as 40 hours of operation before becoming problematic.

This website gives a good overview, with informative diagrams, of the different types of pressure washer pumps: http://pressurewashr.com/pressure-washer-pumps/

Note that while it says that triplex pumps have a virtually unlimited life span, the 500-800 hour lifespan of an axial pump is probably more than a homeowner would ever use and would likely outlast one of those clone engines.
