How the membership works? How do I earn points? Do I have to load money into the membership and purchase stuff with that money?

gold status is practically worthless now. that's why they keep giving it away
Yea I was confused about why there seems to be so much hate in this thread. Then I remembered I'm on a website that tends to attract full-blown cheapos.

Well, don't expect it to last. After 6 months, it'll be back to the worthless program along with our regrets for not making a fuzz when it first launched.

I am one of the customers they were trying to weed out with the changes. But since the new program began, I've been getting offers with enough point to get me free items about twice a week. Stuff like, "buy a sandwich, coffee, espresso drink (doesn't have to be all together) by the end of the week and get add'l 75pts." "Sign up for 3 free months of spotify and get 125pts." "get extra 10pts if you order coffee w/ mobile pay." I was not happy at first, but given what I've seen so far, it may be a wash if I keep getting good offers for points.

Yeah, I think I need to purchase about three times as many tall Americanos compared to what I used to have to purchase in order to earn a free drink.

as with most corporations that get greedy, hopefully they will realize their mistake. The word is out on this one.

The most hilariously dumb thing about the Starbucks Corporation's arrogance is how they fended off complaints by saying, "this was the most-requested change to our program by our customers!" Meanwhile it was totally arbitrary for them (in profitable interests) to set the reward threshold. Assholes.

What a rip-off! I stopped gong to Starbucks ever since they switched their rewards program. It's not enough that they make billions in profits, but now they are being even more greedy and want more money, so they screw the consumers over. Shame on them!

It's all about how and what you buy. I used to get a free drink with gold every 12 visits with the old program. Now I get one every 7 visits with my personal card and every 3 visits with my organization's card.

Can you elaborate a little more? I'm assuming purchases on your company card are of higher value, thus how it works out better? This program is really beneficial to the high rollers (not me) and isn't beneficial at all for the normal folks.

Exactly I think they did it to try to find a middle ground to make the points system equal for everyone. Since half people get just coffee which a venti coffee is like $2.50 I think and then other half of consumers get frappachinos which are like $5 for a venti.
With the old system the $2.50 people were getting same amount of points as the $5 people. So I think that why they decided to go based on per dollar spent with the new program
