SPAM: Slickdeals' Best Deals (Created for you by Slickdeals)

fibbeh 5 10 May 10, 2016 at 05:43 AM
Starting on May 5th, SlickDeals conveniently setup an automatic alert that now spams me about deals that I do not care about. If this is some kind of marketing campaign, please know that you are alienating long time fans with this kind of garbage. The text that explains that the e-mails are coming from an alert is even hidden from view in a microscopic font at the top of the e-mail that says:

"fibbeh, this Fire deal matches your alert for Slickdeals' Best Deals (Created for you by Slickdeals)."

Thanks Slickdeals, but I don't want your automated e-mail spam for "Slickdeals' Best Deals". I visit the front page daily already, and this only makes me want to stop visiting.

Thanks for your feedback. Slickdeals regularly runs tests for features on the site, and we are indeed testing creating alerts based on our absolute top deals for a small number of users. The purpose of this is to send only the best of the best to ensure users don't miss out on really great deals. This is restricted to extremely highly rated frontpage deals only, which should result in just a couple of the best deals every day.

Because these are deal alerts, users can of course manage them including changing the criteria or removing them completely.

We are closely monitoring engagement, unsubscribes, spam reports, and even deal alert deletions in addition to user feedback like yours. I apologize if this has inconvenienced you, but we also added easy links to manage the alert right in the email to make it as easy as possible to change.

There is a known bug that the text about the description is wrong and will be fixed shortly.
