Would this be acceptable for a computer monitor? Not gaming, just regular computer use.

Anyone with a Meijer near buy, pay attention to the summer bucks and mperks, credit card deals. They have an extra 20% off clearance electronics (TV's count) I got a 50" Vizio Smart for $168 by stacking a bunch of stuff. Albeit it is a display, but it is for my garage so it is no biggie for me!

Maybe. It's 4:2:2 at 4k, so that could be an issue.

see this facebook post [facebook.com], which says it can't do 4:4:4 at 60hz 4k.

What's really a problem, though, for "regular computer use," is that it apparently can't even do 4:4:4 chroma at 30hz either, according to rtings [rtings.com]:

4k @ 30Hz @ 4:4:4 Show Help : No
Even an old Seiki 39UY04 becomes a better choice at that point, for color coded (programming, etc) text heavy work that doesn't need 60hz. The 4:2:2 on this is roughly equivalent to a WRGB (for example, the Sceptre 4k tvs) in terms of data loss, but may have different and worse artifacts when dealing in colored text. Note that black text on white should be perfectly fine.

Ironically (for your lack of care about gaming) these apparently have very low (for a tv) input lag (see the rtings review, see also the facebook thread where Vizio claims 8/9ms possible, etc) on HDMI 5 in gaming mode, and would probably actually make pretty decent gaming screens (they can do 60hz 4:2:2, apparently, which is better than the 4:2:0 on a lot of other 60hz capable displays: it's hard to find a good 60hz 4:4:4 for this cheap, and while 4:2:2 gets iffy for text, especially text with color coding/etc, for moving video/game scenes it generally looks fine), but I'd be leery of using them for a lot of color text work, coding, precision image editing, etc over other options.

Some people have different tolerances and 4:2:2 is definitely still well above 4:2:0 (which personally I find unusable), so if you're mostly going to use this for browsing and Youtube, and black text on white backgrounds for other things, mixed with also using it as a smart TV (-or- with that feature in mind to eventually cycle it to a bedroom if you get something better to use as a monitor later on, very much something to keep in mind when considering this as a currently monitor-use purchase, that it will be easy to use for other things later on), it may be worth giving a shot for you.

So, hmm, if I knew I might not care too much about the 4:2:2, and worse case this would eventually find a use elsewhere… I'd probably risk it. Especially if there was a nearby walmart I could return it in store to if I had issues.

Don't do it. I bought one, returned it, and returned the two replacements. There was something wrong with the picture on ALL THREE. When Walmart says "refurbished," they mean "defective." They don't retest these tv's.

ahhh... the good 'ol "Walmart roll-the-dice Refurb" threads...

if you look at the plethora of prior threads you will come to the conclusion that the "dice" being rolled is HEAVILY weighted against you...

hey you seen very knowledgeable so got a question. does 4:4:4 matter when I'm gaming on my PC hooked up to the TV? I don't care about input lag since I'm not playing any MP shooters.

That is store specific. One Meijer in town has that 20% off on clearance but the other one doesn't.

I'm in for a roll. It's not gambling if you know you are going to win.
