I upgraded to Windows 10, do I need to install drivers?

Ispend2much 507 167 May 11, 2016 at 12:55 PM
I did a clean install of Windows 10 (I really hate the look. I spent hours trying to get it to look like Windows 95, plain, gray, and simple. Haven't gotten there yet.)

Do I have to install any motherboard drivers for my 5 year old Asrock B75M or has MS taken care of that? I don't overclock, or care about Rapid Start, temp or fan speeds.

Realtek audio or ethernet? INF? SATA3? USB 3.0(it seems to work)?

When I did the clean install MS went and got my Nvidia drivers for me, but I did a clean install later myself.

Everything seems to work, audio, video, internet.

Thanks

If it works, don't touch it. Windows update is supposed to handle it. I find that is usually not true but there you go. If you want, you could install the NVidia utility that will autodetect driver updates and grab them but you may live without it if you don't need the cutting edge beta drivers.

If your motherboard manufacture offers windows 10 drivers you might install them if your having trouble on say your Ethernet driver or something like that. However with a 5 year old board I am doubtful. Probably worth doing a BIOS update if you have not. I agree checking the device manager for any Yellow ! too.

Device Manager looks OK. Also says I have an Intel USB 3.0 driver!
Glad MS took care of the drivers. The MB CDs come full of crap you usually don't need.

Thanks

use classic shell to change the look and feel, use IE 11 instead of Edge Browser.

Ya I never use a driver CD. They are almost always out of date, Best to get drivers from the manufactures websites.

Just go to website then click on to update drivers, and it will do automatically

I wasn't sure if I HAD to install the MB drivers. In the olden days you had to install at least some drivers before even going online. I was surprised MS installed an ethernet driver.

That being said, I am back on Windows 7 and will never upgrade to 10. After 24 hours of use, Win10 completely hosed my internet and wifi. After 36 hours of troubleshooting, I put in a Linux Live CD and had no problems going online. Restarted into Windows 10 and couldn't get back online. I went back to Windows 7, and am doing a clean install!!!

Thats pretty rare, I think a lot of people just assume windows 10 is a vista or a windows 8 and assume its bad. I have had little actual windows 10 problems.

Edit: I guess I did have a trouble early on the in the beta when I upgraded the first time with some networking. A clean install took care of it though.

Hello. I am not well versed in computer knowledge, but I am wondering this.....I have a HP Pavilion g6 and it has windows 7. I am being constantly messaged to upgrade to Windows 10. Do I have to? I am trying to avoid it since I like window 7 and my laptop is old. I'm afraid I don't have enough memory for windows 10. Thank you.
