As with any of these smart thermos, check with your gas and elec companies to see if they provide any sort of rebates. Most will have something available especially since it's a wifi model. It is a great thermo, I got mine when it was being clearance at Target for around $70.00, so while not a smoking deal, it is decent.

At this price, why choose it over the ecobee3 (which has hit a price point slightly higher a few times recently)?

I bought 2 Ecobee3 and they are working perfectly with our dual Zone Heating. I'm so glad I didn't buy The Nest or the Honeywell Wi-Fi smart thermostat. ecobee seems like a very good company who really understands their customers. customer service is top notch. Must be something to do with those Canadians since this is a Canadian company

I own an RTH9580. It's a good thermostat. The humidity sensor is nice and the fan circulate feature certainly makes a difference in terms of comfort. At this point though I'd grab an Ecobee 3 from ebay for a few bucks more. I'm planning to upgrade to the Ecobee soon.

agreed, I believe you need modern wiring to power these bad boys though. I bought $15 honeywell digital thermostat and it's freaking awesome compare to manual old funky looking thermostat I had from the 50s.

Any SF or residents find any use for these? These things are minimum use to me. I don't even have AC. I would think AC is probably where the convenience and cost savings comes in with these. My heater only runs for 2 months a year, and I only have 1300 sq ft to heat.

I have had an Ecobee 3 now with 5 remote sensors for just over a year, and I absolutely love it. I can't say enough about their support. I emailed them a suggestion and they actually sent me a thank you email and that i should see a change soon. It sure didn't read like a "form" letter.
