Detached search bar in chrome/opera

nas15 4 10 May 12, 2016 at 10:29 AM
Didn't see this posted anywhere so apologies if I missed something.

Recently I've run into an issue where the search bar appears to have escaped it's frame when using Chrome/Opera. I've deleted all extensions, cache, restarted, etc etc and nothing has fixed it.

Essentially, the bar shows up below the black title bar, but is still attached to it and it seems like the element floats above the menu. It follows as I scroll, meaning I can't click on anything it covers.

This has not been repeatable with Edge (although who wants to use Edge?). I've updated to the latest Chrome and then Chrome beta without a change.

Unsure if that's a known bug or if it might be something on my end. Thanks!

Thanks for reporting, nas15. Could you provide a screenshot? It would help us investigate.

Sure, attached you can see a screen shot of the overlapping search bar below the black title bar. Those frames scroll over the top of the rest of the content. The deal categories are unclickable because of the overlap.

Could you try this when you're on the Slickdeals website in Chrome:
  1. Paste this into the URL bar: $('div.globalSearch').css('width', '755px')
  2. Type in javascript: before it by hand, so the end result will look like javascript:$('div.globalSearch').css('width', '755px')'
  3. Press enter key

And this in Opera:
  1. Paste this into the URL bar: javascript:$('div.globalSearch').css('width', '755px')
  2. Press enter key

Does that fix things for you?

Thanks for the quick reply. It does fix the site on both platforms after I enter the code. Since it will reset when navigating to other parts of the site, does that indicate an issue on my end?

Thanks!

It's just temporary to make sure the fix works for you until we put the fix out on production. We had a hard time reproducing it, so we kind of had to guess what the possible issues was. The fix will be out shortly for everyone.
