Nashbar is having a 25% off sale until 10pm 5/12 (not sure what time zone) on their bikes.

25% sale isn't too unual, but Nashbar usually bumps up the price of this bike from $950 to $999 in their 25% off sale. Today is the first time in a while that it stayed at $950 price that can be combined with the 25% off.

Cavalo Gara Disc [nashbar.com] for $712 + $15 shipping for $727

This is a really solid bike for the money. It has mostly Shimano 105 5800 drivetrain, decent Mavic Akasium One wheels, and aluminum frame with carbon fork. The real unknown is the Tektro Aries disc brake.
  • FRAME Aluminum, tapered head tube, English thread bottom bracket
  • FORK Carbon fiber, 1-1/8" to 1.5" taper steerer tube, post mount disc brake
  • HEADSET FSA, NO.42/ACB-A, alloy
  • CRANKSET Shimano 105 5800, 50/34T
  • BOTTOM BRACKET Shimano BBR60
  • SHIFTERS Shimano 105 5800 2x11-speed
  • FRONT DERAILLEUR Shimano 105 5800, 34.9mm clamp
  • REAR DERAILLEUR Shimano 105 5800-SS, 11-speed
  • HANDLEBAR Kalloy alloy, 31.8mm diameter, 131mm drop, 84mm reach, Widths: 49cm=40cm; 52cm/54cm=42cm; 57cm/59cm=44cm
  • BRAKES Tektro Aries mechanical disc, 140mm front rotor/160mm rear rotor
  • LEVERS Shimano 105 5800
  • STEM Kalloy alloy, +/- 7 degree rise, 31.8mm clamp, 1-1/8" steerer, stainless steel bolts, Lengths: 49cm=90mm; 52cm=100mm; 54cm/57cm=110mm; 59cm=120mm
  • TIRES Vittoria Zaffiro, 700x25, wire bead
  • WHEELSET Mavic Aksium One disc
  • CASSETTE Shimano 105 5800 11-speed, 11-28T (11-12-13-14-15-17-19-21-23-25-28)
  • SEATPOST Kalloy alloy, 27.2x350mm
  • SADDLE Velo
  • PEDALS Not included
  • CHAIN KMC X11
  • GRIPS/BAR TAPE Velo cork
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Judgint by just the components, the Cavalo Gara is much better. The Allez Sport has mostly Sora components while the Cavalo has 105 components. The ranks of the Shimano components from the highest end to most budget oriented are: Dura-Ace > Ultegra > 105 > Tiagra > Sora > Claris. The wheels are also better on the Cavalo.

However, I can't say how the frame compares. Specalized Allez has a good frame that you can build on. I haven't seen a Cavalo Gara frame in person so I can't compare it directly.

This is a pretty decent deal on an intermediate aluminum road bike. The 11 speed 105 group and Mavic wheels are pretty good for a new bike at this price point

- STEM Kalloy alloy, +/- 7 degree rise, 31.8mm clamp, 1-1/8" steerer, stainless steel bolts, Lengths: 49cm=90mm; 52cm=100mm; 54cm/57cm=110mm; 59cm=120mm

The width of the Handlebar (from one end to the other) depends on the size of the frame.

The 49cm frame comes with 40cm handlebars. The 52cm and 54cm frames come with 42cm handlebars, etc.

Similar concept for the Stem.

There 5 different frame sizes of the bike: 49cm, 52cm, 54cm, 57cm, and 59cm. Typically in a road bike, that's the length of the seat tube (middle of the bottom bracket to the top tube). You can think of it as a size for the bike.

Depending on the size of the frame, the stem and the handle bar will be different. Bigger bike usually requires bigger stem and handle bar. The size of the stem and handle bar is the number after the = sign.

id spend the extra 170 and get the carbon 105 bike. carbon frames make a huge difference in ride quality and 900 for one with 105 parts is a grreat deal
