Depending on T-Mobile Account & location you may have some cost involved.

If you have a mobile internet line already you can "upgrade" to the G Pad & only pay sales tax (so if your in one of the lucky states with no sales tax you pay nothing at all).

If you have to add a new line then you have to pay for the 20 dollar sim starter pack.

You also have to have service at the time that the rebate is processed & The minimum cost for this is 10 a month if you have a qualifying voice line (almost all post paid voice lines qualify).

THe rebate is for a 240 dollar prepaid master card so its not the normal free tablet deal. This one allows you to cancel much much sooner then other T-Mobile free tablet promo's.

----------------
Purchase the LG G Pad F™ 8.0 tablet on EIP with a 1GB data plan or higher.
New line must be active at time of rebate processing.
Go to http://www.T-Mobile.com/promotions within 30 days from date of purchase and use the Promo Code to request your rebate card: MAY16LGGPAD
You’ll receive a prepaid MasterCard® card in the value of $240, the price of the LG G Pad F 8.0™ tablet in about 8 weeks.

Deal is DEAD. Must purchase LG phone, and only then get free tablet.

How to get the tablet

pre-requisites:

1)already have a postpaid line with tmobile, simple choice
2) if not a customer look for PART B

PART A
Procedure :
1)call in and get the tablet for 0$ down
2)pay shipping of 7$ and taxes on 240$ = 7+20 = 27$ approx (ask them to waive the sim kit fee if they do not automatically do that)
3)go to the rebate link and apply for rebate
4) keep your line active till you get the 240$ rebate, might take upto 8 weeks
5) keep paying monthly 10$ for the data plan of tablet till you get the rebate( actaully 20$ for data plan, but if you are already a tmobile customer it is 10$ kinda, as they will give you 10$ credit in bill monthly)
6) say you get the rebate after 2 months, now pay off the tablet fully and cancel the data plan
7) you paid 10x2=20$ for 2 months data, 27$ in the beginning, total under 50$ for the 4g lte tablet , market price of 150-200$

Part A.1
5) You maintain your existing 1GB or better a month data service, do not activate the SIM card, and keep using your existing device for no additional cost
6) say you get the rebate after 2 months, now pay off the tablet fully and probably keep the data plan you had before this started
7) you paid 0x2=0$ for 2 months data, 27$ in the beginning, total under 30$ for the 4g lte tablet , market price of 150-200$

PART B
Procedure :
1)get the tablet for 0$ down after credit check and stuff
2)pay shipping of 7$ and taxes on 240$ = 7+20 = 27$ approx (ask them to waive the sim kit fee if they do not automatically do that)
3)go to the rebate link and apply for rebate
4) keep your line active till you get the 240$ rebate, might take upto 8 weeks
5) keep paying monthly 20$ for the data plan of tablet till you get the rebate
6) say you get the rebate after 2 months, now pay off the tablet fully and cancel the data plan
7) you paid 20x2=40$ for 2 months data, 27$ in the beginning, total under 70$ for the 4g lte tablet , market price of 150-200$

So what's the actual cost on this for service, $10 a month for the add-a-line?

You'll have to pay $10/month for the EIP, and $20/month for the data service on the line. You'll get $10/month credit if you have a phone line, so the data nets out to $10/month. When you get the Mastercard you can pay off the EIP. Once the EIP is paid off, you can move the tablet to a pay as you go plan for free (well, it's $10/month, but you get a $10/month credit), if you want.

I have no idea why it's getting TD'd, it got a TU from me. The tablet isn't the best available, it isn't an iPad, but for free it's a pretty good deal. For something to to watch movies on and browse the web, it will do it's job. It's also not the newest...

As far as other tablet deal, this is the only one I am aware of...

Couldn't you just cancel the line once you get the mastercard and pay off the tablet? Whats the catch here? $20 for a sim kit + 1month service.

The charge for a sim starter kit when you add a line, but when you go into store, this can be waived. I never pay for Sims...even when adding a line, but my local T-Mo store is quite friendly...

Yes, you can cancel the line once it is paid off. Or keep it with the free plan...

Or for those that already have a mobile hotspot like I do, upgrade the device, get this, swap the sim card back in to the hotspot, and enjoy your new tablet and free data. I'm on a grandfathered plan so data only costs me 10$ a month per hotspot. I like this deal.

This is actually better than the normal T-Mobile tablet deals. Normally they give you a $10/month statement credit, which ties you into the 24 months EIP. With the mastercard you can get out of EIP instantly...

My store claimed that they deduct the rebate amount when you cancel, leaving you with a $240 bill. I assume she didn't know what she was talking about, correct?

They also hassled me about the SIM in store, claimed they can't waive it anymore. Sigh.

I didn't see any thing in the fine print that suggests that.

So the OOP for this tablet would be the upfront starter SIM + $10/month X numbers of months you need to wait until you receive the rebate card?

EDIT:
I believe the OP is now incorrect. I also chatted with tmobile to confirm and the fine print indicates EIP is required

Limited time offer; subject to change. Buy an LG G Pad F8.0 and get $240 back. Qual'g service, credit check and EIP agreement req'd; plus taxes and fees. If you cancel wireless service, remaining balance on device becomes due. Redemption req'd; see store for details. Rebate provided as a Prepaid MasterCard(R) card. Card terms and conditions apply. Allow up to 8 weeks. Not available in CT/RI/Miami-Dade.

What do you think about this tab vs the Galaxy Tab A from T-Mobile. I need a tablet that takes half-way decent photos. The Galaxy Tab A, from reviews, seems to take some decent shots. I have not found any mentioning the camera quality on this tab.

The OP is saying to get EIP - the full payment for the tablet is due when you cancel the service but you use the rebate card to pay it off. Why is the OP incorrect? He just didn't name the EIP specifically, that's all.
