I really don't know much about PCs does anyone know if this would be decent as a gaming laptop? The newest game I could see myself playing is Fallout 4. Thanks in advance.

Just search Youtube for "950M gaming", or "Acer V15 gaming". Tons of stuff out there.

This will play stuff but you'll likely need to turn down settings and resolution (probably play at 1280 to 1600 and medium-low settings).

However a 950m usually allows for a slimmer PC and runs a bit cooler than the 960m.

The 950m should really be thought of as the slowest mobile gaming GPU. That is because the 940m is not even really powerful enough to play anything reasonably fast.

That's why I prefer console gaming. no need to worry about meeting specs for the latest games and stuff

Just a word of warning - apparently Linux support on this laptop is less than stellar. Caveat Emptor...

if you're looking to game on this, try to see if the gpu memory is gddr5, there are other variants of the gtx 950m with gddr3, the difference in performace is, if i remember correctly, around 10%-20% worse on the gddr3 variant.

I researched for similar specs and price, and this is the only deal out there for a mid level gaming laptop.

It has one extra slot for RAM, but you'll have to remove the keyboard and lift the motherboard to get to it.

I'm looking to swap the 1tb drive for my spare 256gb ssd, but I'm not sure if I need to do anything special other than swapping the drive. I'm assuming the 128gb ssd that's already installed has the OS on it.

Also, I couldn't find anywhere whether the version that are selling is the DDR3 or DDR5 version of the GTX 950m. I did see somewhere online that the 2gb version is DDR5, and the 4gb version is DDR3.

Thoughts?

I bought it from Adorama, but I think they're closed on weekends. So it probably won't ship til tomorrow.

Thanks I'll search some videos and see if I want to commit to this as it may be wiser to invest in something that is future proof for at least a couple of years. I may also look into how difficult it is to build a PC since there a probably a ton of "how to" videos out there.

I prefer console gaming also and used to be really into it in the previous gen of 360 and PS3. But I know that I will never have enough time to make use of a X1 or PS4 so I may as well get a PC for gaming that could also be used for other things. Plus it makes me look much less selfish in my wife's eyes.
