It converts VGA to HDMI(you plug a HDMI cable into the end and then that into your screen) pretty sure it's to get around HDCP so you can stream HD video.

If you bother to look at the picture, it clearly shows vga + 3.5mm connector feeding to the HDMI (+USB too, probably for power).

So this, essentially, gives you one more HDMI slot on your TV correct?

Looks good and wanting to pull the trigger, but I'm confused on one part from "the rebate":

http://images.frys.com/art/rebates_pdf/8017494_$20MIR.pdf

"In order to obtain a rebate, visit http://byteccusa.com/index.php/co...ebate.html or
ask Fry’s Sales Associate to get THIS rebate form
. You will then complete this rebate form and
follow the steps below"

^What's the purpose of that? It's a rebate form already as far as I can tell, so that bit just makes it confusing

It converts VGA to HDMI which has no bearing on HDMI slots.

I'm pretty sure the OP already followed that link and gave you a direct link to the rebate form, but I would check the ByteCC link too to make sure the forms are the same.

I've owned a few ByteCC HDMI splitters, at least 1 of which died. I could be confusing them with another company, but my memory is they want as much in return shipping fees as the items cost to repair them so their warranties are effectively worthless on items under $20. Also, I thought I heard that ByteCC's rebate processing center was 1 guy working out of his house, and he is very slow. I've had rebates approved from them, but they are not a place I'm confident of. I can't remember if it was them or some other cheapo Chinese reseller's rebate that Fry's had to help me to get my rebate fulfilled.

If this were an Antec or MSI product, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but when it's ByteCC I always worry if I'll ever get the rebate. I don't really need this but it would be cool to have for $5 AR but no way it's worth $25 or even $15 to me. Hopefully it doesn't get super hot like my ByteCC HDMI splitter does.

As long as you have a 5v usb ac adapter around (and who doesn't?), this will be great to hook up a Sega Dreamcast with the VGA output to an HDTV.

Thank you. My Firefox was taking an inordinate amount of time to load that page, so I never got to see the photo.

This won't pass HDCP content.

Thanks, bought one and will give the rebate process a try. The rebate process looks like they've created a dozen ways to prevent you from doing it right, FYI.
