I am not that tech savvy but I know you gamers are usually up to date on all the latest electronic gadgets so I post my question in this forum.

Basically what I want to know is this: My wife and I download movies via a popular site that I won't mention here. For the last few years we streamed them through our PS3 and now PS4 using Tversity.

Problem with that is we want to stop using our PS4 for streaming and want to buy one of those boxes like a ROKU. I have no idea if a ROKU can stream from my PC to my TV so I'm asking you guys for advice.
I download x264 and lately a lot of x265 coded movies to play on our 4k TV. Will the latest ROKU stream that format from my laptop to my TV and if so, how hard is it? Will it play smoothly if it does?

Any advice is appreciated, I don't wanna run out and buy the ROKU unless it can do what I want.

No, Roku itself will not do what you want it to do, BUT adding the Plex app to a Roku can. Through the Plex app you can stream from your pc to Roku to TV. I'm not sure if you need to buy a Roku to achieve your goal as there may be better solutions.
