Thread Details

My sons 16th birthday is coming up. His computer died so I thought I would get him a new gaming computer. Thing is I don't know a thing about buying one. I can tell you he uses Steam and plays several/many games. Your help would be appreciated. If you need anyother info, let me know

He can do that and not upgrade the video card through HP, and instead by something more in the $200 range.

the base machine is 650 and with the upgraded vidya card and psu, it is 207 more. i doubt he could get a new PSU/vidja cahd for that from newegg/amazon/jet.

i doubt the kid needs a i7, i5 is probably fine. but we also have no idea what he plays and what the actual needs is. but the i7 w/ a GTX 970 will take anything you throw at it.

Not much info on the best buy site, I think you could do better if you are patient. How much time do you have? And do you need the financing? Yes, you can use a webcam on anything these days.

You can usually do OK with Dell outlet sales, scratch & dent. However if you just have a week, that is a bit tough. Set a Deal Alert for desktop PC and see what pops up.

I'm not going to pull the trigger on this, but am I looking for a better price or something different in the specs? Would this play most games? sorry for the questions, I'm just not sure about what would be the best bang for my buck.

Those specs are decent. I would prefer more power behind the processor, but this one is good enough. That graphics card is also a decent little beast.

I don't like the hard drive, but that just slows load times and doesn't hurt performance. Issue I have is that it is about $200 or so more than I would admit to paying.

I searched around the Dell Outlet and couldn't do better at that price range. Perhaps there are some coupons out there for it. If you need it this week, then you could do worse than to grab this one.

ON clearance see if your local store has this available. For your setup and time and computer knowledge this is better than what you linked.
