Traveling soon... phone options

kingmikesaya 54 18 May 18, 2016 at 06:51 AM
Hey everyone,

I'm going away for 2 weeks at the end of June. I'm going to France for a week, and Israel for a week. I'm trying to find the best phone options for when I go away. I know that Sprint and Tmobile let you roam for free in other countries, but unfortunately I have Verizon, who charges an arm and a leg!

What I'm looking for:

I don't need any minutes or texts on my plan- just data, since I use google voice.

99% of my usage will be texting (which doesn't use a lot of data), with the occasional facebook post or phone call over google voice, but I don't think either one of those uses too much data.

I'm thinking I won't need more than 200-500mb for the trip, since I'll have WiFi at the places I'll be staying.

I tried to look for decent rates, but all the international rates seem high for the "one stop sim card" that works all over.

Can anyone help me find a decent rate?

Thank you,

Go to any tourist center and they have wifi dongles for rent. I rented one for two weeks last year and I think I paid 70 euros and I got like 3gb of data. Helped a lot navigating all over France.

Google Voice does not work well for WiFi calling unless you have a robust broadband connection.

Firstly, I don't believe Google Fi works on a Verizon handset, but it works when traveling internationally? Details, please...

Which Verizon phone do you have? A lot of them are unlocked for GSM which will allow to use prepaid SIM you would purchase in each of those countries.

You could also get a Tmobile service for the duration of the trip.
