First Post here. I saw this deal and it seemed pretty slick to me. I couldn't find this exact deal posted yet. Follow the link, Customize and buy, add to cart and use coupon code OMENFW50 to cut the price in half. Here are the main specs:

Win 10 Home
i7-4720HQ Processor Quad-Core
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 2GB Discrete Graphics
8GB DDR3
15.6 inch 1080P screen
512GB PCIe Flash Solid State Drive
802.11AC with BT and USB Ethernet adapter

I have been eyeing this machine. But do you think the 4th gen i7 is a deal breaker?

CONS

No support for 802.11ac or Gigabit Ethernet
Trackpad poor for gaming
Processor heats to worrying temperatures
Poor battery life

It is hard to open, the rubber pads underneath need to be removed in order to access the screws, and then the pads are not re-attachable - they get damaged. I would say the biggest con is the WiFi N, i.e. the lack of WiFI AC.

The CPU is a beast, faster then the 6700HQ, however I heard the Omen gets hot, too hot - to the extend that heat wraps the bottom of the screen.

It is good purchase for $790 for a nice laptop when compared to mid-range laptops in the same price category, but I would not get it for gaming - my opinion. It does come with 512GB ssd. I don't think you can get similar Dell XPS 15 even on refurbished sales event at this price. That Dell comes with discrete graphics as well.

Thanks for your input. According to specs it comes with 802.11AC and a USB to ethernet adapter. I would probably pick up a cooler if I were to do heavy gaming.

Wow. That 512 SSD is worth $300 alone. Good deal!

Thanks for replay.

i7-4720HQ is faster than 6700HQ? Interesting..... so I don't have to worry about it being 2 generations behind. I read the "bad" thing about other concerns. That's why I am still on the edge..... But what can a $790 buy in these day. The spec is very attractive. What should I do?

It's fast. like 2-3 times faster than the traditional 2.5" SSD.

Nearly double the performance of previous generation SATA interface SSDs for sequential read and write operations, in theory, basically it's really fast.

theoretically PCI express 4 can have speed up to 1.5Gb/s compare to 500Mb/s SATA 3

Those should be GB and MB (bytes not bits), considerable difference.

1.5Gb would be SATA generation 1.
