Reviews on these are just terrible if you really dig into them. On the surface they appear great, especially if you're a person who doesn't notice the small things, as in small bits of black plastic from the blade housing.

They make great, powerful motors, but it doesn't seem the engineering is up to par with the smaller, more delicate parts of the blender.

Vitamix and Blendtec seem to both have issues with this, btw.

I looked at the reviews on Amazon for this model. 57 reviews averaging 4.6 stars is good.

I missed the last deal (when the price jumped to $229). Seeing as this deal from this seller has been coming back regularly, I decided to wait and put an alert on it. Ding, alert email received, and I ordered one. I kind of think this seller had flat sales at $229 and decided to clear the last of these out. These have good reviews from the previous buyers on SD.

I thought that only happened in all the cheap blenders I've ever owned, watching as the gears disintegrate and grind into dust, rocketing toward eventual uselessness. Sad to hear the big-hitters I've lusted after have the same issue. Why not just use metal components?

I've had this blender for about 5 years and bought it with two jars, the four side and the wild side (the latter of which I highly recommend). As for the bearing issue, this is from blendtec's instructions:

"Before loading your jar each time, spin the drive shaft on the bottom of the jar for a few seconds. This will help keep the seal in good shape and prolong the life of the jar. If the shaft does not spin freely, add some hot water to the jar, then twist the shaft by hand until it begins to spin freely."

The blender is very powerful and it's not surprising that it will destroy a dry bearing. That being said, my wife used our four side jar to make flour or grind up flax seed, etc. She doesn't follow these instructions and the bearing on that jar is no longer smooth.

The other jar has always been used for "wet" stuff and I follow these guidelines only occasionally. So far this jar hasn't had any issues. I'd highly recommend people do this if they buy one of these. If you don't use the jar often it WILL dry the bearing up, and you want it lubricated before you torque it at x-thousand rpm.

Is it the blender made of metal components except its blade, like the foundation? Because I have bought a blends that it was out of work after two weeks I owen it. I have no idea whether I was so rude when using or its bad quality of plastic problem, making the blender damage.

What's the difference between this and older total blender models?

Here's the current comparison: http://www.blendtec.com/blenders/compare
