After searching for a good price, the best I could find was 49.99 (clearance) at Walmart. Chances are all stores OOS EVERYWHERE, but the clearance price was still 49.99. Online the best I could find was.74.99 refurbished on the AT&T site with a prepaid service package. The highest price I saw was 139.99 at Sears. So before someone else gets the glory for this deal, I decided to post it.

THE HOW TO:

I went to BEST BUY, and physically brought a sealed ZMAX2 phone up to the register. Then called up Walmart while at the register on speaker phone. Read the sku to the electronics department at Walmart. The man on the phone checked the Walmart inventory and said it was OOS, BUT still priced 50$. BEST BUY price matched instantly and gave it to me for basically 50% off. Im sure you could call an outside of state Best Buy if you needed too. But the phone seems to be 49.99 across the US. Someone also commented as the phone being $49.99 on the WALMART APP (not near me though. came up as 79.99) to help price match easier..

Check Brickseeker and WALMART APP and just grab it from WALMART if it is still in stock near you at the clearance price of 49.99. If not Best buy had a ton of these phones on the rack because they were still marked as $100. I had no trouble getting a price match.

I bought this phone for my baby mamma so she would have a reliable phone for my son in case of emergency. It is a very solid phone. The camera is nothing special though. It also takes up to 32 GB micro sd card, so space isn't an issue. I might go buy another as a backup phone tomorrow. They had lots to spare in the Store.

I'm using this phone with T-Mobile
Everything works except wifi hot spot - has anyone able to enable this with t-mobile?

Unlock Instructions:

Steps below to get unlock code from AT&T:
- - Do NOT open the retail packaging before unlocking
- Do not power on the phone with sim inside
- Click https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/ accept terms and click Continue
- Select "Non-AT&T Mobility customer"
- Provide information such as IMEI, First Name, Last Name IMEI and email address & Submit

Steps to do after submitting request to AT&T:
- Check your email and look for an email from AT&T device unlock department (order@ecom.wireless.att-mail.com)
- Open the email and click link in the email to confirm your request (that you previously submitted)
- Wait for your Unlock code to be delivered in email within 48 hrs
- Do not power on the phone with sim inside until you get your code then follow instructions below

- Use another carrier (non AT&T) SIM in device and power on, once prompted enter the device unlock code received from AT&T

Zmax 2 now can be rooted with Kingo PC. Kingo's SuperUser app doen't handle the root permission correctly. You can either uninstall the Kingo's SuperUser app to get root, or you need to go to Kingo's SuperUser app to Deny and Allow a few times in order to get it working. Note: Temp root only.

Good job presenting all the info. Nice post. This is a huge YMMV because it's a price match for an OOS item. Most stores will give you a very hard time price matching an OOS clearance item from a competitor. So you should add YMMV to the title to avoid all thumb down. Reps for sharing

Thank you, will do. My first post! But you dont even have to mention OOS. Just call and ask the price of the item like I did. nod

Once the phone is unlocked what services will this phone work under? What companies will this phone not work under?

I may want to get this for my dad, as he still uses a crappy clamshell phone.

Compatibility will depend on carrier and region. Different carriers use different LTE bands, and even the same carrier uses different bands in different areas.

That said, it should work perfectly for cricket and any other at&t mvnos, and you should get voice, text, and at LEAST 3G internet with most other domestic GSM carriers. To be certain, you'd need to know the exact carrier it will be used with, and what bands are employed in the area it is to be used.

You can call the carrier or research it online, and then check it against the tech specs from zte/GSM arena/etc.

Hope the info helps. Best of luck : )

As mentioned above the ZTE ZMAX2 is a GSM phone therefore it will not work on Verizon i.e. CDMA, SPRINT and their mvnos. In the US .... GSM carrier, AT&T, T-Mobile, Straight Talk, H2O, Cricket, and other AT&T mvnos will work once you unlock your phone and install the service providers chip. .

Has anyone else had luck price matching an oos item at Best Buy before?

I tried price matching something online but they wouldn't do it because it was oos, but didn't think to specifically ask them to call the local store. If this works we could be price matching a lot of the ymmv Walmart clearance items at Best Buy

Thinking about picking this up for that Ringplus deal today (if it even works), or using it on MetroPCs once my Verizon contract is up in ~2 months since my iPhone 5s is pretty old now and getting messed up.

Thanks... repped and thumbs up
