Raspberry pi 3 is $29.99 @ microcenter in store.

Even sweeter if you got the mailing with the cards that get you flash devices (3 mix & match SD, micro-SD & USB).
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

OK, that's it! Now I am officially jealous of those who live near Micro Center.

Hmm, coupon says "Rules and Restrictions: This offer should be accepted at Brooklyn, Queens, and Yonkers store locations." . I assume that means it's no good at other locations... does anyone have confirmation of that?

Yes I tried it. Went there (Yonkers store) armed with the $5 and $10 coupons as well as the cards for free 3 flash devices. Went out the door with the raspberry pi 3 + filler (100 cd envelopes for $2) for $22+tax and picked up one of each free flash device. Worth the half hour drive plus it is fun to go to that store to see the latest offerings and clearance rack (which had nothing I needed).

I did not use the $5 off $30 as I could not think of something else to buy with it.

As to purpose: I am going to use my Raspberry pi to allow my Elk M1 gold security system to set my HomeDepot radiothermostats to away mode when the system is armed away. My wife never turns off the ac when leaving the house.

Damn, just picked it up last weekend using 5 off 30. This could have made it even better. Oh well.

A great use for the Pi is http://pi-hole.net. 3 simple steps to get rid of ad banners at your router level for all devices on your network.

If only I had a MC near but no, only a WorstBuy and OyOyGregg...

Why would you use a raspi as a caching dns server? Wouldn't the router be much more capable?

There are a few consumer routers that can be made to ad block using 3rd party firmware, but pi-hole would work with any consumer router with a minimal configuration.
