This Skylake i3 benchmarks slightly higher, but it's not anything that's going to be noticeable against the ASUS' Broadwell i3.

Among others, the far more important features that need to be compared are the build quality, display quality, upgradability, touchpad and keyboard, audio quality and driver support (and support in general). Remember, the ASUS also came with a 1TB drive, so if you perform an SSD upgrade that HDD is going to be a lot more useful than the 500GB drive in this Lenovo.

Seems to be several models of the 300. Can anyone confirm that replacement of the SSD and RAM are relatively easy? One youtube video for the 17" version just shows removal of screws, slide back cover off and both components are right there.

One spec says upto 8gb or RAM, the product spec on the oher SD link shows up to 16gb.

Can't seem to find the manual via Lenovo's website.

Is the battery replaceable or permanent? Seems to be permanent via some forums?

*** EDIT ***

Went ahead and ordered one anyway for the wife. The other SD thread about this same model, found in Message #1, one of the last posts said it was simply the screws and back cover removal for easy access. Aside from the laptop, I got Office 2016 Home/Student (non-subscription) with the $20.00 new laptop purchase discount at STAPLES (~$99.99), plus PNY CS1311 480GB SSD (on-sale for $110 at Best Buy), and an 8GB stick of DDR3L Crucial for about $27 at Amazon). Grand total came out to be around $525. Still unsure about the battery, but we'll deal with that later.

The PNY CS1311 comes with Acronis imaging software via download with code found inside the drive package.

if the battery is not the removable type with a slider switch, it just means you have to remove the back cover completely and replace it that way. no big deal. if you already have it open to do memory and drive upgrades, make note of the battery connections so you know what to do when it comes time to replace it

I bought the ASUS and like it, except the screen seems really washed out. Any idea how the Lenovo is?

I bought the lenovo for this same price 2 weeks ago. Slim, good processor, not the best touch pad, Boosted my donwload speed with the included wifi feature, washed screen, good sound. 240gb SSD mod + 8gb Crucial RAM + Ubuntu made this laptop good for my needs for less than $350 and a ridiculous boot time and file transfer rate and now I have a 500gb usb 3.0 external hd for random use. Worth it.

ps: I used the 4gb 1600hz ddr3 that came with this computer on my fiance laptop that had and old ddr3 800hz

I just bought the ASUS laptop yesterday from BBY. very tempting to buy and see how this lenovo would be because this is latest processor. Does it really worth putting much time into this with returns and comparing? Also I need DVD drive. The picture of Lenovo seems to have DVD but the specs doesn't mention it. Does it have dvd drive? Also the weight factor, I like ASUS.

Don't bother. The difference between the two processors is not significant and won't be noticeable in daily use. The ASUS is less expensive, half a pound lighter, has a 1TB hard drive, a DVD/RW drive and has been getting very good reviews over at Best Buy.
