Too risky with the weather?

Anyone been snorkeling there?

Any advice?

We took our 1st trip there in May and we loved it. From what the locals told us, Turks seems to avoid a lot of the storms and hurricanes. I would imagine it would be pretty hot and humid in August. It was pretty hot in May but we had just enough breeze to keep us cool. I'm no snorkel expert, but there is decent snorkeling there. There are 2 reefs you can get to easily from the beach and of course there are snorkel trips you can book for a reasonable fee ($89/pp for half day) where they take you out to a protected reef. There's a great forum on tripadvisor if you need further recommendations.

I visited Grand Turk in July and it was pretty hot, but ocean breezes cool things down. We did not snorkel there, but as sexyrx suggested, do check the tripadvisor forum for suggestions. We found plenty of things to do through suggestions from TA.

You will find the risk of hurricanes increases in the US at that time, as well. Granted, you would have more options than in T & C.

We travel every summer and go to a lot of tropical destinations and only had weather problems once. Caribbean in summer is always a bit risky -- but better than staying home. We had booked Ambergris Caye off of Belize for a summer vacation and our flight from Belize City to Ambergris Caye was canceled due to a hurricane. Our resort rebooked us into the Log Cab Inn which was inland and only 10 miles from the Guatemala border. We did get to see ancient ruins in Guatemala and being in the jungle was an experience -- much more interesting than the beach. We did spend the remainder of the week on Ambergris Caye and the hurricane had downgraded before it got there.

Thanks. Went to Ambergris Caye last year and loved it. Same time of year. Will check more on TA.
