Short Scale, if that's what you're looking for on a budget or starter bass.

Cheap enough and don't own a SS yet. Plus the Amazon reviews, though few, seem quality and positive. Think that's worth giving a whirl.

Not sure if that means this deal is still active, but noticed the promo codes match:

Bummer the code doesn't work on the Cherry red...

Got one of these earlier this year when they had squier jags on sale for 127usd. Good quality stuff, especially for the price.

the ss does not refer to the pickup...rather as others mentioned it is short scale 30 inch string length

Probably not -- no reason to fake the cheap stuff...fake the upper end stuff, like any industry. It costs as much to fake low end as high end, the high end will obviously gain more interest.

Nobody fakes screen print sport jerseys, Walmart brand clothing, Wilson golf clubs, and Casio watches. It's gonna be top end gear -- Gucci, Callaway, Rolex...

This review from 2011 says this model is $169. Seems like the price has gone up from when they first came out. Not really a slick deal if it was $169 5 years ago without any discounts.

Yeah, that was the standard price on these for years. I bought one for my wife in the fall of 2011 from Sweetwater for the same price, including a nice Fender cable. It was her #1 for about a year before switching to the (perfectly sized for her) MIM P Bass Jr. Good luck finding one of those. Wink

The Jag is a good little bass. It needed some minor work. It also needed a thick set of strings to replace the thin ones that have no place on a short scale bass. It, of course, needed a setup. Here [justonemorebuild.com] is my (admittedly nit-picky) review.

I bought before I realized it was short scale. Not sure if I should keep it or not...
