Connecting soundbar to TV

I have a Samsung PN59D550. It has an optical audio port as well as two component sets. Is it possible to connect my soundbar to just the audio ports of the component and hear the soundbar without selecting component as my source?

My soundbar's optical audio port is broken and my TV doesn't have a headphone jack. Would my only other option be an optical-to-stereo adapter or an optical-to-headphone adapter?

why not try it yourself and let us know? If you don't have component cables try whatever you use for IT support where you work.

These ports are directional... the soundbar has INPUTS and a TV mostly has INPUTS with a couple exceptions: optical or coax digital audio out, head phone jack, sometimes a set of RCA AUDIO OUTPUTS. Connecting the component audio INPUT to the soundbar INPUT won't yield the desired result. Obviously ports like HDMI ARC, Ethernet, USB etc are a little more complicated.

Take a closer look, two of the RCA jacks could be Audio OUT.
