Surfing Free Plan 1.0 [ research ]

This Plan includes:

$0/mo: 5,000 Talk, 5,000 Text, 200 MMS, 5,000 MB (plus an additional 500 MB more each month you stay in the research, with a max limit at 10,000 MB per month for now)

A $30 Top Up is required to cover overages. If, and only if, the Top-Up balance reaches $0, another $30 auto Top Up will be automatically charged to your credit card on file.

Overages: (billed from your Top Up balance plus applicable telecom taxes and fees)

$0.05 per talk, text MMS
$10 per GB

*Social Media Requirement: Upon getting this Plan by any means described in this post, we kindly request that you connect your Twitter account to your RingPlus account (this can be done during activation). RingPlus will send an auto-Tweet via your Twitter that you got this plan.

After your Twitter is linked to your RingPlus, you will also be able press “0” (zero) on your phone to share what you hear on RingPlus Radio via your Twitter, and you can set up your voicemail to allow your callers to hear your most recent tweets!

What is different? (Why is it a research Plan)

The basic goal is making your data last longer and to reduce data burn, without the cell phone user rely noticing it and opening it up for alternative revenue streams paying for the free data.

You know that many companies currently are playing with data manipulation and slower speeds for streaming (but still enough to enjoy the video) with better compression, throttling some times, and sometimes not, to reduce data burn. We will do the same with the addition to inserting advertisement by internet search, or an ad when you launch the browser sometimes from time to time.

The goal is to bring you to unlimited data usage by sponsored data.

So, what do you have to lose try it out and if you don’t like it, you can change any time to the Relaxed Free Plan 1.

---

Relaxed Free Plan 1

$0: 3700 talk, 3700 text, and 3700 MB LTE (full-speed data) +200 MMS

Tethering $20 per year

Same overages and Top Up as the Surfing Free Plan (see below)

Your top up will be transferred to the Relaxed Free Plan 1.

You can make that change from the Upgrades section of your account. You could also switch to any other plan available for upgrade at the time of your change.

---

Background about this Research Project

This is Data Experiment - Research Project.

This plan is one of the newest sponsored research plans from RingPlus.

By signing up for this plan, you agree to participate in this beta test which is researching the field of data compression, speed variation, and data stream sponsorships among other things. The goal is to research and produce the next generation of data delivery which will reduce RingPlus’ data costs while delivering a good consumer data experience and more free data.

We welcome all participants.

If you at anytime you no longer wish to participate in the beta test, you will be able to change to the Relaxed Free Plan 1 (see below).

poor merchant reputation: MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A CALL IN LESS THAN EVERY 60 DAYS, OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE DOWNGRADED TO FREE PLAN (125min/50text/25MB) WITH NO NOTICE. THIS WAS STARTED SINCE 07/11/2016.

NO Upgrades for normal people, move along if you were expecting otherwise.

This is a 5k everything with 200 free MMS plan that R+ will use to try out various data saving strategies on. You can opt out of this anytime to the fallback plan (Relaxed Free Plan 1) if it does not work out for you.

The Research plan is NOT available via upgrade BUT IF YOU WANT the fallback, you change to it using the upgrade option.

In consideration of your support for their research, they will gift you additional data every month.

Phone sources: RingPlus Store, RingPlus classifieds, Swappa, eBay, Craigslist, locally used phones (verify passes Ting & R+ BYOD checker).

$0/mo: 5,000 Talk, 5,000 Text, 200 MMS, 5,000 MB (plus an additional 500 MB more each month you stay in the research, with a max limited at 10, 000 MB per month for now)
EVERY MONTH - NO ROLLOVER

If you have a top up balance on a line >$0, you do NOT have to top up again until your balance for that line reaches $0.

Swap outs and cancellations have usually been allowing immediate new lines: http://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=83732938&postcount=1271
....Starting new lines immediately from canceled phones may not always work, use placeholder workaround for immediate activation if you run into that issue.
....If you get billing cycle delay, it means until the renewal date on your plan, not a fixed 30 days. Placeholder + swap is quick fix.
....See more on cancellations at bottom of wiki.
No free upgrades - except for Truly Free 2/3 during the flash (top up balance required) or the $25 classified method
.....Downgrades to TF3 are no longer allowed.
M+ is not required during the flash
FED - Many reports are that R+ prepaid phones that have been deactivated are passing FED checks!
.....One R+ deactivated iPhone 6s failed FED check May 6. >90% R+ phones reactivate successfully despite not meeting posted FED criteria, but there's no guarantee.
BYOD Your Own Phone - Test Eligibility here: https://ringplus.net/#byosd
Port in is NOT required.
Separate accounts are typically recommended for multiple lines - not locking into a single email address

FED - PLEASE READ ... Important Activation Notice Regarding Prepaid Phones referred to as FED = Financial Eligibility Date https://social.ringplus.net/discu...-phones/p1
As of April 17, 2016, per our carrier partner Sprint, Members and potential Members will no longer be able to activate prepaid devices which are not eligible under Sprint's FED policies (explained below). Such prepaid devices will no longer pass FED until actual eligibility date is met. This is not a new Sprint policy. It is merely a system update to the Sprint system to comply with Sprint's existing FED policies, and to close the gap in the system that allowed such devices to pass FED and be activated on carriers other than those that originally sold the device ("originating carrier").

FED - As of 4/17, in order to activate a Sprint/Boot/Virgin prepaid phone with RingPlus, the phone must have been active with its original carrier for 12 months.
  • Already activated phones are not affected because they will not trigger an FED check
  • But if you deactivate a phone, you will trigger an FED check when you (re)activate the phone.
  • You will no longer be able to activate a new-in-box Sprint/Boost/Virgin prepaid phone (e.g., from Best Buy) with RingPlus.
  • Upgrading a line to a different plan is NOT an activation, but swapping to an inactive phone will mean an FED check
  • To date, all R+ phones which have been deactivated are passing the FED check, although this is not guaranteed by policy
Roaming included with M+, Roaming for non-M+ $50+tax
Per minute / per MB charges still apply. M+ & non-M+, 14? per minute, 55? per MB, SMS roaming just substracts from allotment.
https://social.ringplus.net/discu...t/17213/p1 and https://social.ringplus.net/discu...-top-up/p1

FreedomPop phones purchased post FED (04/16/16) must be on FP for a minimum of 6 months before FP will release the ESN.

If you cancel your current line with R+ then you will lose the remaining top-up balance for that line, your phone number, and the phone from the canceled line. Also, in some cases, you will not be able to register a new free line using the phone from the canceled line until the end of the billing cycle (<1 day up to 30 days max), although you can use a placeholder for new registrations and swap in the canceled phone for $1.99 as an easy workaround if that happens. To this point, all deactivated R+ phones have been able to reactivate new R+ plans despite FED policy, although the billing cycle may come into play on occasion. Update: On May 6, someone reported that they deactivated a iPhone 6s from R+, and it would not reactivate. A BYOD check gave the message that it failed FED. This is the only report of a R+ activated phone getting deactivated and then not meeting FED.

If you are going with RP, be mindful of a porting issue that has my number now in "transferring" status for over a week.

https://social.ringplus.net/discu...-18#latest

This has their support tickets tied up very heavy. You should be fine as long as your not porting or needing to open a ticket.

Mama Mia, this is a sweet plan! Doesn't look like there is a tethering option for 'Surfing Free', otherwise I could cancel my broadband!!

Who would be foolish enough to port a number to Ringplus, a company that has pulled the plug without prior notice before?

I think most of the people here are smart enough to port their numbers to Google voice and forward the number to their ringplus numbers.

Good question.

They are trying to reduce the traffic to the LTE backbone. This will allow Sprint to increase efficiency of their backhaul channels.

So, the user might end up using 7GB of data but Sprint has to pay other providers for only 4GB, for example.

So are you saying Sprint is paying other providers for LTE?
