E3 is the 22nd annual week of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, gaming's big trade-show, to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center (and surrounding venues) this year. Expect world premieres for AAA to indie darlings and sometimes new gaming hardware/peripherals.

All times in Pacific.

This is a list of stream-able events during E3 week, including: olor=red]press conferences[/color], personal interviews/demos junkets, and press analysis. Let me know of anything I may have overlooked.

I was wondering when we'd get the E3 thread. Thank you for not disappointing!

Read the rumor report yesterday about new hardware from Microsoft. Everything from a $100 Windows 10 streaming stick to a $175 Streaming console (think beefed up Apple TV) to a brand new Xbox One 2 that would be due in 2018 (bit of a stretch there).

Years ago I predicted how Sony and MS gamers will eventually just migrate to PC and leave Nintendo as the lone box in a (much smaller) console market. Seems like Sony and MS are in a rush to push the PC lifestyle of regular upgrades....

I'm fine with aesthetic changes, thinning, quieter, colorful. But performance changes thats a whole nother ordeal. MS/SONY should offer and exchange + $$(difference of new vs old) to upgrade to the new hardware.

Exactly. The system doesn't need to stay the same. Drop manufacturing costs, put in more efficient chips, make a slim layout, etc. But if you're talking about a significant performance boost and splitting your user base.......hmmmmm....

Nintendo's done this with their handhelds but traditionally haven't had any games that were only for the new version. But with the small libraries that exist for modern consoles, I can't imagine having games for only the upgraded versions. But having it run differently on different machines....seems weird in the console space.

not to mention upgrading a console may give you a competitive advantage.

The streaming devices don't interest me, but the Xbox One 2, codename Xbox Scorpio, sounds interesting (rumored for 2017, not 2018). The Scorpio is rumored to be more powerful than the PS4 Neo, but Microsoft still needs to invest in their first party games more than anything - I'm only anticipating Halo Wars 2 from Microsoft. Though Sony's exclusives haven't been amazing this gen either, I mainly want a sequel for The Last of Us and maybe God of War IV if the rumored viking setting fits Kratos.

I believe I read that, for multiplayer, 60fps players get a 17ms advantage over 30fps players - a negligible difference (your ISP will matter more).

I see the advantage more for the times that the console fails to even hold a solid 30 FPS. Usually when lots of things are blowing up.

Getting a higher resolution would help out as well when you are attempting to determine which shade of mud belongs to the thing you are supposed to be pointing at.

In the end, I have been terribly underwhelmed by this generation. It still feels like it is brand new and we are waiting for it to hit full swing. Then I realize that we are already several years in and both systems are failing to do anything impressive aside from a few notable exceptions by Sony.

PS4 is probably the last system I will buy into. Grabbed it for Bloodborne and UC4 (which I haven't even played yet). Just finished upgrading my PC for less than what I paid for the console and it will last me much longer than the 2 years than Sony wants to invest in.

If MS and Sony expect people to cough up $400 every 3 years for a hardware refresh then they will chase all intelligent gamers away. The purpose of the console is the simplicity and cost which is now being destroyed.

the double edged sword of power. More power raises the bar for a games potential to mindblowing level. But it also increases development costs (both money and time) and game complexity which in turn leads to more bugs and day 1 patches and other frustrating things....along with the necessity to hold content behind DLC paywalls to recoup those monetary costs.

I think we already hit the tipping point.

Very much so agree. I actually still play a lot on my Xbox 360 because in the end the gameplay to me is going to be much more important than graphics. That...and the Xbox One works well as the hub of our primary entertainment system, so the wife uses it WAY more than she'd ever use the 360.

I think that is obvious too in that most consumers are fine with simple games as Arcade titles sell VERY well.
I don't know what the answer is, but staying with $60 games and yearly rehashes does not feel like the answer moving forward for most titles...there are still going to be a couple AAA titles that get HUGE sale numbers (like Uncharted) but there is not space in the industry to release 100 $60 games a year as there would just be WAY too many failures.

And then you look at an example like Rocket League...a ~$25 game that has sold over 5 million copies...bringing in over $110 mil; are games in that range a better investment for the developers? Hard to find figures on most of this stuff...

I just really hope the "Free-To-Play" BS doesn't become the fall back plan for everyone....yuck.

EA press conference reaction - Grade: F
• Titanfall 2 - I just hate the design of the soldiers and the mechs. Looks like an anime to me. And it's using the dated Source engine... mechs in games should be creating environmental destruction.
• Fe - Fin.
• sports games - Do people who play these even watch E3?
• Mass Effect: Andromeda - ME has cool characters, but I'm always disappointed by the gun-play. The lack of a demo means that this won't make 2017.
• Star Wars games - I hope they aren't as anemic as SW: Battlefront (2015).
• Battlefield 1 - No campaign demo. I saw the multiplayer stream after the press conference and I didn't bother to watch all the matches - it's Battlefield (I've played enough of the multiplayer to last me a lifetime). Animations for entering and exiting vehicles looks like the biggest change rather than the time-period.
• Lots of "work in progress" games that are years away. Whatever happened to Criteron's extreme sports racer?

Bethesda press conference reaction - Grade: C+
• Quake Champions - Cool CG trailer, hope they port it to consoles.
• The Elder Scrolls: Legends - Card game, pass.
• Prey - Glad it sounds like a reboot, the first Prey on last-gen didn't interest me. Always up for a good horror action game.
• Dishonored 2 - Makes me want to continue my progress in the first one. The new shadow powers also makes me want a The Darkness sequel as well.
• I guess good support announcements if you like their open world jank RPG's (I don't).

Microsoft press conference reaction - Grade: D
• Xbox One S - 40% smaller.
• custom controllers - Why?
• Gears of War 4 - Dated gameplay and level design (chest high walls).
• Forza Horizon 3 - I'll just replay DiRT games.
• Killer Instinct dlc - Uglier game than I remembered.
• ReCore - Need to see if it has a story. But cute trailer.
• Inside - 2.5D platformers are always fun.
• We Happy Few - Very unique world - could be the new BioShock. I just wonder if the gameplay can match it (I remember it looking janky last year).
• Minecraft VR - Kids aren't buying VR.
• Tekken 7 - Never liked the franchise.
• State of Decay 2 - The sequel to the budget zombie game with no story. Pass.
• Gwent - Card game, pass.
• Dead Rising 4 - Never liked the franchise. Ugly graphics.
• Sea of Thieves - Cartoony pirates and a demo with YouTubers in picture-in-picture. The worst.
• Halo Wars 2 - Amazing CG trailer, but gameplay clips looked cel-shaded. I wish Halo games would aim for photo-realism like the CG trailers (Company of Heroes has better textures, an RTS from 2006). Cool that there is an open beta this week though.
• Project Scorpio - 2017. 6 teraflops gpu (most powerful console released). But not a lot of exclusives that will take advantage of its power (too many cartoony graphics).

Ubisoft press conference reaction - Grade: D
• Just Dance - No.
• Ghost Recon: Wildlands - Watch Narcos instead. The shooting looked super stiff, but the dirtbike looked good (weird).
• South Park - The Fractured But Whole: Hilarious, but I don't play turn-based games.
• Eagle Flight - Gimmicky.
• Star Trek Bridge - Gimmicky in space. Ugly graphics. Too much time spent on it.
• For Honor - It doesn't need a story.
• Grow Home 2
• Trials of the Blood Dragon - Hilarious 80s theme. Every game needs an 80s dlc pack.
• Assassin's Creed movie - Too much time spent on it.
• Watch_Dogs 2 - Cringey Hollywood hacker tropes, sterotypes, and dialogue. Graphics and animations are better than the first. Soundtrack is good.
• Watch_Dogs movie announcement - Whatever.
• StEEP - Alpine snow sports game... unexpected and unwanted. Textures look low-res.

Sony press conference reaction - Grade: A+
• I'm very thankful to see Sony pushing for realistic graphics instead of cartoony styles. Sony single-handily saved E3 and perhaps AAA gaming itself.
• God of War - The orchestral opening gave me goosebumps. The TLoU influence is strong. A 3rd person camera instead of a fixed camera. Gorgeous as expected.
• Days Gone - The TLoU influence is strong. Eat your heart out Dead Rising. I hope this doesn't delay a TLoU sequel though... maybe it would of been better if this was a TLoU spin-off instead.
• The Last Guardian - Finally a release date.
• Horizon: Zero Dawn - I like the mount mechanic as I guess this will be the closest thing to a AAA Avatar game. But the voice acting sounds stilted.
• Detroit: Become Human - Quantic Dream redeemed themselves.
• Resident Evil VII: Biohazard - A VR haunted house? Very interesting. At least it's not like the anime musings or failing to ape TLoU from recent installments.
• Farpoint - A VR FPS that doesn't look janky.
• Star Wars Battlefront X-Wing VR Missions - Fine VR use.
• Batman: Arkham VR
• Final Fantasy XV
• Final Fantasy XV: VR Experience - Janky.
• CoD: Infinite Warfare - It just ate Star Citizen's lunch, and that was only in the first few minutes. I take back my snarky thread.
• CoD4: Modern Warfare Remastered
• Crash remastered games and Skylanders - I only played CTR so I don't have a strong attachment to Crash. At least it's only a remaster and not a brand new game so it's not taking major resources away.
• LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
• Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding - Mind-blowing trailer.
• #SpiderManPS4 - Finally a good Spider-Man game.

Bump just for Sony's press conference. I give it an A+ (see above post).
