Awesome deal. But the tax kills it. I was on the fence at the same price without tax from Ebay (ANTONLINE) and didn't jump cause I wasn't sure how reliable ANT was if I had to return it for any reason.

No micro centers near me. and the tax makes it about the same price as you can find on ebay. still a good find.

esp good find because you can buy their warranty which even covers OC'ing. if your cpu goes poof, you bring it in they give you a new one on the spot. @ $50 2 years for the insurance it isn't cheap but well worth it if you like to OC. If you don't OC then you probably shouldn't get this particular cpu anyway.

I'd go for Intel's plan at $30 instead. Particularly since, for this CPU, it's not like this Microcenter price is slick since it has been on eBay at this price a lot.

Not everyone's got a 4770k. I've got a q6600 from 9 years ago. And next gen is Kaby Lake which may be even slower for some bizarre reason. Same # of cores, lower clock rate than 6700k.

Word of note though - apparently anyone with a Skylake and beyond will not be able to install Windows 7. Ridiculous decision by Microsoft - desperate to force people onto Win 10.

Intel has a protection plan? Does it cover screwups from installation (like bad heatsink installation or bent pins?

I've never had a cpu fail on me though. Intel makes them really tough and the thermal throttling shuts it down before any major damage happens. On the other hand, I've tried replacing my vid card cooler 2x and I'm 0 for 2, ruining both cards. Artifacts aplenty afterwards. Never messing with them again, especially not when the card is $500.

Dealing with some bullshit with my credit card price protection trying to price match to microcenter from fys. They want a letter from frys saying they will not price match microcenter.

That's exactly why I'm still using a 3570K after several years; there isn't much incentive to upgrade to a newer setup (especially when I would also have to buy DDR4 now). I doubt next generation would be all that much better either. It seems that they only give us a 5-10% boost with each generation of CPUs for the last several generations.

Not related to this deal. But you know we've reached the pinnacle of civilization when one can say "meh" to this processor, or any processor for that matter. Look at this video of a dual core processor magnified. It keeps going and going and going and going and going. No idea how Intel and AMD can manufacture things like this.

On a canadian site. (NCIX) And only to specific people depending on which state they lived in. And it went kaput within a few hours. I couldn't get it and I have an alert that was sent an hour from when it was posted.

I never bother. They make it as hard as possible to match. It's just something they say they'll do for marketing purposes. When it comes down to making them honor that promise, good luck.

No it just covers OCing, which is what quoted post was mostly talking about though.
