i have a T3i kit with the 55mm lens which is perfectly fine for everyday use. I also have the 300mm lens which is just ok. i say that because i have a 250mm lens which is faster and sharper than the 300mm lens.

at these prices this is a great bargain for someone looking to get into an entry level camera.

Really wanting a 6D... Even the refurbished ones are out of stock. I delayed and missed the rebate bundles, regretting that now.

I have 6D and Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 lens. Most of the shots I take are for my baby/family. Will the 85mm be better option than the 24-70?

The 85mm really is an amazing lens. The only drawback is that it has specific uses for it. With that focal length, it's mainly for portrait photography and you do have to stand farther back if you want a full body shot.

Canon 85mm is the best lens that Canon offers out there based on the pricing and image quality ratio. I know several professionals still use the 85 1.8 unless there is a strong need to go with the 1.2L which goes for about 4-5 times the price.
It's light, fast, fantastic blur, and affordable.

The 85mm is wonderful, especially if you have a full frame camera like a 5, 6 or 1 series. I do all my portraits with it.

If you get 85mm check yours as soon as you get it for bad CA. My first copy had horrible purple fringing. Second was much better.

85mm f/1.8 has specific uses.. Particularly for indoor sports such as volleyball.

If you need reach the 70-200mm zooms will be better. If you want to shoot head shots I find the 135mm focal length in full frame more appealing. YMMV
