The N3700 is a 1.6GHz part with a 2.4GHz turbo mode, which all four cores can't sustain at the same time. Not a 2.4GHz part. Its slower than the J2900 but has a better gpu.

Not enough to make it as a budget gaming system, not capable of on-the-fly transcoding with something like plex or playon.

The N3700 is just the latest descendant of the Atom CPUs so no relation to i-series (which are descended from the the older Core CPUs referenced in this discussion). There's no direct comparison despite what Intel's branding would like you to believe. Intel intentionally rebranded the latest generation of Atom CPUs as Pentium and Celeron in part to correctly identify these as their budget CPUs (which is largely where the Pentium and Celeron brands have been relegated) but also to move away from the strongly negative image associated with the Atom branding. Don't fall for that trick of marketing by attempting to make too many direct comparisons.

There's plenty of great advice on this thread about what various thresholds are appropriate to consider, much of which can be found on Tom's Hardware. With a refurbs available under $100 everyday at retail, there's no reason why you shouldn't be replacing every P4 or older system with a Core2-based box if you're seeking an upgrade. If you can afford it, a newer i-series based platform like the G Pentiums or i3 is an even better investment (usually in the $100-200 range). Watch out for platforms integrating mobile CPUs since upgrade-ability is always questionable.

Skip this box unless you already have a very specific application in mind.

Good luck!

There is another thread with a Lenovo tiny one on Woot. I ordered a Dell Micro earlier today, but it was over $300. At least I don't have to worry about stupid rebates.
