In airbnb, you can get high quality room/ or even one whole house at the cheaper price. Take your time to find the best room that suit you Smilie

I found Airbnb to be more expensive than VRBO. Even for the same property so I used VRBO Smilie

Im 0 for 2 using airbnb. Pics looked fine...get there and the place is a dump. Ill never use airbnb again.

I only use vrbo. Seems to draw a better crowd who rent their places out.

I used airbnb throughout Europe and didn't have any issues, but that was almost 4 years ago. It seems as though now the places are more dumpy and cost more (more than a decent hotel room). It's better to just find a cheap hotel or get a better place through VRBO. I'm going on another long trip next year and I plan to use VRBO exclusively or hotels. Don't need no dramashake head

Agreed...getting a cheap hotel is your best bet. Was thinking about booking a vrbo when we head to CO to ski next year but decided on a hotel instead. It was around $500 for the week vs a condo through vrbo.

I had enough of airbnb when I tried to book an apartment/studio from several hosts and then they came back and told me that the price would be higher or in one case I booked through instant booking and the host sent numerous messages and ended up calling me pleaded for me to cancel because the price listed was wrong. Then I called airbnb to cancel and they told me I had to pay to cancel! They told me to stay there and only pay what was listed. Is that crazy. I wasn't going to stay somewhere I wasn't wanted. It took a a month to get my money back and many phone calls and airbnb outsources their customer service which is not good at all like it was some years ago. It's like Amazon, they got bigger and bigger and things changed. I can't say I trust airbnb anymore. I think the only places I would stay on airbnb are some of the listings which are certified B&Bs with their own websites.Frown

I have been looking at airbnb rentals for a 2 night runaway and nothing I've looked at seems to be the same caliber as VRBO in the same price range. I have stayed in many VRBO rentals and never stayed in one that didn't beat staying in a hotel room. If you're staying somewhere more than a night or two, it's nice to have someplace to stretch out.

In a couple of months, we are staying a week in a VRBO condo rental with lots of really good reviews. It overlooks the ocean and you can watch the dolphins from your balcony. There is 1 bedroom, 1 bath, kitchen, and living room. It is costing us less than $93 per night including taxes and fees. We'll save half or more on food & drink by having breakfasts, a few lunches, snacks & drinks at the condo.

Airbnb is the walmart of rentals. A lot of people renting rooms on airbnb see a opportunity to make a little cash so they rent out their hunk of junk room.

VRBO is the target of rentals. For whatever reason vrbo attract those who take pride in their rentals...its not just a quick way to make a buck. When I searched out places on the big island and Kauai I had trouble finding rooms that were flat out disgusting. Most of them appeared to be nice. Ended up booking places on both island for a week each.

My major advice to anyone who DOES plan to use airbnb, is to NOT click on the "instant book" feature. Contact the host first and confirm the price that is quoted by airbnb software. Trying to get all your money back will be dreadful experience!

Yes. Many time before I book on airbnb will contact with the owner and they reply soon. Thats what I really appreciate. Sometimes I have any question, they will solve the problem for me quickly. Thats nice.

You have to specify "dumpy" or "flat out disgusting" in the search filters.
