Usually $199 on the 23andme [23andme.com] website and rarely goes on sale.

Gilt City deal link

New users at Gilt City can bring this down to $139 with the WELCOME20 promo code. May also be other offers out there for new customers (EXTRA30 maybe), but WELCOME20 was the one i found first and used.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Buyer Beware - 23andme and similar companies not only sell your information, they will help law enforcement agencies by testing their DNA database and notify them of any potential familial matches.

Voucher includes shipping (normally $10).

Coupon WELCOMESAKS30 also has been reported working to bring the total down to $129 instead.

After you get your results you can send the data to Promethease and get a full DNA analysis for like $5. Something 23andme can no longer do thanks to the FDA.

FYI You can use Dr Rhondas Genetic Report with 23andme
https://www.foundmyfitness.com/genetics/1
This report has most of the common single nucleotide polymorphisms that I often like to talk about in podcasts and during presentations. Including polymorphisms that affect the absorption or utilization of nutrients like omega-3 ALA, vitamin B12, vitamin D, vitamin E, as well as polymorphisms that affect the interaction between our bodies and other dietary components like to saturated fat or heterocyclic amines which are formed when meat is cooked at high temperatures (among other things).

No, they also allow lycanthropes to do it, too.
Just a PSA. HIPAA does not apply to 23andme. So you will be giving them a lot of information about yourself. What they can do with it does not fall under the HIPAA umbrella.

They do an annual $99 promo right?

ancestry.com has a kit similar for $100.00.

Also my sister did 23&me and it says she should have light hair and eyes. She doesn't.
They said the more people do it the more accurate it will become. Doesn't make sense to me but that's what they said. She ordered the kit from ancestry for comparison but hasn't completed it yet.

Not sure about the annual $99 promo, but I know it used to be $99 before it was re-approved by the FDA to include medical-related DNA information. It has been $199 ever since as far as I know.

This is also the main difference between this and other DNA testing services, this is the only one that includes medical DNA information. If you're more interested in genealogy, ancestry or FTDNA may be better and cheaper alternatives. Although, FTDNA apparently does allow you to upload your raw DNA information from 23andMe to their website for genealogy analysis, I'm just not sure of the pricing and details on that.

Can anyone compare this to other DNA testing? Also, what are some uses for this text?

I got mine for around $119, before the turn of the year. It's a shame that the price went up, because it's really all not that impressive a service, or that difficult a process for them to go through to give you the results. Granted, I'm not an expert, so I can't say for sure what all goes into it. But, if they were fine with $100 before, and now they want $200, I doubt it's because the cost of operation went up.

Dunno.

Just be careful, I've taken some genetic classes and one of them emphasized genetic counseling. Your results may seem really scary, but just know that nothing is certain.
