So if I buy this, will my Asian friends trust me more?
False, rice is phenomenal for you...its what you drink with and put in it as well as eat along side it that causes your glycemic health disorders. Rice has a low glycemic index load by nature (white or brown as they are both similar). Certain races are more predisposed to certain health risks and that is NOT due to diet on the whole. In fact, speaking of asian health issues, one of the reasons that they are more suceptible to t2d is because they carry and are born with a higher intra-organ fat content. Even into adulthood with a low BMI they have higher fat percentages surrounding their organs which leads to insulin resistance. On top of that modern culture and urbanization has led to a more sedentary lifestyle which then leads to all other poor choices in regards to diet and health.

Eat away at all the rice you want like me. Just exercise and live healthy and you wont have any worries...believe me rice is the LEAST of our dietary worries.

Looking at the comparison chart on Amazon [amazon.com], the white one may actually be inferior, notably there's no steamer plate and the inner pot thickness is thinner by .4mm from 1.8mm to 1.4mm (if that makes any difference really).

I own the dumb rice cookers where you fill it with water and push one button to cook and it will keep the rice warm after. Nothing else fancy. Is this the cooker for me? If not, any other recommendation?

If u need a 10-cupper, it's a great price. We upsized from a 3-cup Tiger to the 5-cup Zoji last year. All the bells and whistles. Wife loves it. I'd consider this if we had kids.

Unless you eat rice twice a day x 7 days, save your money and get a $20 Aroma from Walmart, the savings will pay for a lifetime of rice for the occasional eater.

Rice isn't good for your health - Asians have the highest NiddM T2Diabetes among all ethnic groups. I know many South Asian Indians who have been diagnosed at age 35, and still eat rice twice a day, AMA.
