actually, in most cases it is overhead that causes these types of price increases. specialty items such as a white paint job require additional overhead such as different part numbers/sku, marketing material, boxes, additional warehousing where the device can't be buried behind other items of the same, low volume shipping price increases, etc... the standard cases or colors benefit from volume discounts. none of this even includes the paint, facility, or labor to paint (as this could take away from profits of the standard colors if the same location is used for other colors). that money for lost time needs to be made up somehow. simply, basic product management which increases with every item added.

Been wanting the UC88 or UC98 but Adorama charges tax in NY and NJ which kills the deal for me. I really want the UC98, not for the Thunderbolt ports but because it's white and goes great with my decor. But paying +$125 just for a color is ridiculous. Wish more manufacturers would make white monitors and cases. Everything white carries a premium - white Fractal Design case is $30 more just for a paint job.

Is anyone familiar with the inputs on this? Can I drive full resolution / refresh rate with a single hdmi port from a few years ago? Or does it require multiple cables or something?

Welcome to capitalism where the price is determined by supply and demand, not by the actual cost.

Maybe if Donald Trump wins the nominee. But seriously for these specs this is the cheapest you'll see at the moment

My 2003 monitor with 1024x768 resolution used to cost $450+ at Best Buy. For this LG to be sub $300, it's going to be at another 3-5 years I would imagine.

Not the same. SSD fabrication cost isn't comparable to monitors.

What are people feeling about 4k, is that going to make it into curved monitors?
I'd hate to spend $850 on something that's going to be left in the dust.
