This is the best deal I could find for portable air conditioner at SEARS.

The total is 469.99 + NO TAX + FREE SHIPPING nod

Amazon has similar unit with HEAT, it's value for money, after tax, at-least in CA, it will come around $519.99. Thanks to the commenter @hoysin

If you have an HH Gregg nearby, i found what looks to be the same unit (same rating, same dual hose entry/exit, similar top cold air exit, display location, etc) but branded by Haier for $420 + tax (mine was about $453 out-the-door at one of their terribly-staffed MD stores).

http://www.hhgregg.com/haier-14-0...m/HPN14XCM

On a side note, I was looking to get an extension for the hose. From my search of replacements on amazon, i think the whynter has a ~4ft hose, but i know the haier has a ~5ft hose

I wanted to get one in store to ensure it didn't get destroyed in transit. Its a 100lb package so be prepared, but the thing works like a champ if vented properly. The manual recommends letting it sit forsomething like 12-24 hrs after installation to allow the refrigerant and oils to settle properly before actually turning it on. I strongly suggest heeding this warning for the longevity of the AC.

Unless you really need sears (or rather a third party seller at sears) I *highly* recommend getting the unit with heat for $469.99 with prime shipping (http://www.amazon.com/Whynter-Por...002W87P9C/ ) I'm still hoping for sub $400, so am holding off (but this deal tripped my alerts) However, I can't for the life of me think of why someone would want to pay the same price for a unit without heat just to buy it from sears (amazon has an excellent return policy on a/c units.)

Be *very* careful extending the hose unless you're adding a supplemental in line fan else you'll dramatically shorten the life (and efficiency) of the unit, but you can extend them with a 5 inch connector available at any hardware store and a 5 inch duct clamp.

We do the commercial free version. For $11.00 a month were not complaining. We get all the streaming services and then some. Maybe you would be happier blowing $110.00 a month for DirectTV and watching all those commercials?
Single hose and refurb I believe. Those units are less efficient.

I think amazon just reduce it's price from 493 to 463. It good option, I agree you pay $47 tax extra but you get "HEAT"

How would this unit install with horizontal sliding Windows? Would u need to build some kind of plexiglass frame and add it to the window frame?

Have a large open living room that cooks due to attached garage trapping heat and then contributes to the heat in the living room. Is this a good unit? Would it be safer getting one at Costco or just get the extended warranty on this?

All "portable AC" are junk, some are total junk, some are junk with cream topping. This is what I learned over 2 years and 1000 $$.

Get a good brand window unit, they are 1/3 or less money, and 3 times more efficient within 1 hour, 10-100 times more efficient after 3 hours, with 1/3 noise level.

Is it possible to install into horizontal sliding Windows? How's the cooling power for a large room?

Bought the one with heater from Amazon. Let's see if I get the same problems mentioned in some of the 1 star reviews. I hope not Smilie
