Love the price but few reviews from amazon got me worried that weight might come apart and paint chipping... Anyone here own cap dumbbell?

As long as you're not throwing these things on the ground, you should be fine. We have all the weights up to 70 lbs., and there's limited chipping.

Good price, but I've never cared for those type of handles, I like the rounded in the center handles much better. Everyone's different though.

Got all the hex from 5lb to 65lb (increments of 5). Anyone seen any hex weights that aren't increment of 5s on sale? Would like to pick up 12.5's and 17.5's, if anybody knows of them. Would help for triceps work.

Buy a pair of PlateMate Magnets - they come in 1.25lb [amazon.com] and 2.5lb [amazon.com] pairs. Kinda expensive, but you can just attach them to the weights you already have.

Or you can just buy some good quality donut magnets of eBay or one of the science shops. The big ones are usually around 1 to 1.5 lb each.

My solution was to pick up a handful of the spinlock handles for my old 1" standard plates (purchased before my hex set) and make my own dumbbells. For those one-off or weird amounts, they're fine to have.

Having more than one set of spinlock handles is handy too, and I get to use up the small 1" plates that I don't typically use, like 1.25 lbs or 3 lbs.
