HDR 1000 (which is I believe a Samsung term; the industry term is HDR 10) is basically an indication of better contrast and higher brightness. Samsung TVs with HDR 1000 have 10 bit panels (instead of the usual 8 bit displays). 10 bit panels have 64* times more color definition than 8 bit panels. So it would affect anything that you see on a TV but it would be most visible when you see HDR content. Content providers like Netflix and Amazon have already started offering HDR content: http://www.theverge.com/2016/4/18...-daredevil
Also, the new 4k Blurays (in case you plan to get a 4k bluray player) will also have HDR functionality.

*Edit:
This comment originally stated that the difference between 8 bit panels and 10 bit panels is 4 times more color definition. That's wrong. It's 64 times more color. Since in color we use red, green and blue color definition. It's 4*4*4 = 64 times of difference. Hence, 8 bit panels have 16 million colors and 10 bit panels have 1 billion/1024 million colors.

Add the TV to your cart; it's $899.99 for the TV AND the $300 GC.

I can confirm that I see the GC after adding it to the cart. It just does not say on the products page. Good find (changing to TU+rep)

FYI, if anyone is looking for UHD premium level of HDR, then it needs to be HDR 1000 compliant. This and the next few models are not. The earliest model which has that (in Samsung) is KS8000 which is quite expensive right now (~$1500). Not trying to TD this deal which is quite good in its own respect, just informing other commenters.

Thanks for the info. I'm wondering if/how it affects any particular task? For instance it mainly affects if you're gaming on this TV? Or watching movies? Or casting your desktop?
