The Walmart versions of Coleman Xtreme coolers aren't insulated in the lid, if that matters to you. You could pick up an otherwise identical cooler from another retailer, and the lid would be insulated.

Also, for those with concern about ice retention, all coolers are rated based on filling the cooler with nothing but ice, leaving it in a temp-controlled room at 90 degrees, and running a clock until the last bit of ice disappears while never opening the lid during the test period. This is an industry standard - anyone who quotes ice retention, from igloo to yeti, uses this procedure. So, when using a cooler with food and beverages in it as well as ice that you're periodically opening and closing, you're not likely to be very close to the rated time. It's really just a benchmark to compare coolers to one another.

This is a great cooler with serious ice retention for very little money. Any cooler with plastic hinges will likely blow them out eventually, but you can buy cheap replacements, or even "upgrade" to stainless hinges from a Coleman Marine cooler. Don't throw it off the back of your truck or offer it to a bear, and it does the same job as a yeti at a 90% discount

Is this in store? If so, which store is yours? I haven't seen this at any of the stores near me, I'm in NC.

This cooler was like $32-33 in store and is an ok cooler for the size. the handle feels a bit flimsy for the weight but I think it will hold up. It's nowhere near a 5 day cooler though. Much more like a 2-3 day cooler at best in real summer heat. I got a bright green one at the store and they have other colors too. If the in store price went down as well then it may be worth a trip to the store to pick among more than just the Navy color.

I bought this cooler this past weekend because my old one had a whole at the bottom. The handle does not stay, if you have a full cooler and try pulling it around the handle will slid down. This cooler does not have an insulated top. I don't use ice, i freeze water in a two litter and use that to keep things cool, to me this works better than ice. so after about 9 hours the ice in the two litter where half melted. The only reason i bought it that we were going on a fishing day trip i was looking at other options but seems like good quality coolers will cost you from $200-$400. I was trying to find a good quality one from around $100 but couldn't find anything.

I am still searching for a quality cooler that won't break the wallet.

Yeah agreed, i have this cooler and the handle is pretty flimsy if you have a fully loaded cooler. For extra insulation, I heard some guys will drill holes and pump it full of spray foam, haven't gone that route yet but I guess it's an option.
