I seem to shy away when I see the word refurbished?
Am I being overly cautious for no good reason?

Refurbished is a discount for a gamble...

Most of the refurbished items, I have purchased in the past have been near perfect... I have had good luck...

It also helps to know what vender you are purchasing from.....

So to each their own.... (I wouldn't rule out item just because they are refurb).

Sometime vendor just dump "New" stock, but because of rules with their reseller can't sell new products for below a certain price point so they change it to refrub. Sometimes they had a firmware problem and the vendor fixes. Sometimes, the boxes are just damaged.. (Those are good examples)

There are bad examples too. Frown

I'm guessing this is two white bulbs and one color? Can't seem to find the info on multiple external pages.

states "Manufacturer refurbished" - should be good to go ?! I have been lucky w/refurb. in the past ! when it's Manufacturer refurbished just gives me an extra assurance - if it was refurb. ? it was done right ! Wink

Sometimes it was refurbished not because it was defective. Maybe a customer returned it or the product was accidentally opened but can't be sold as new. There are many possibly variables but one thing for sure is it goes through quality control again and the positive thing about that is it gets an extra check on how it works vs a new item.

The deal before was $110 with shipping from Phillips for gen 1 hub and 3 color bulbs. Ebay has an easy process for defective merchandise so I wouldn't worry. Also the bulbs have a warranty.

Anyone hopelessly addicted to these things? I have enough bulbs and now I need the gen 2 light strips.... *sigh* Cant beat this for mood. People who have never seen them come into my house and with a voice command they are awed.. Then the dance music comes on and its a party. *Epilepsy sold separately*

Ive actually been changing all my lighting options in my house to work best with hue. Floor lamps and table lamps with white defusers the ligher your room or your shades the better it looks the color saturates it.

Good cheap floor lamps for hue color bulbs
Ikea 2 for $35 use a blow dryer on the material to smooth it. Looks great on either side of Tv, Bed.

Really nice wood floor lamp with shelves leading up to square Japanese style lantern. Seen these for $100-150 assembled at furniture stores. $40 Work great with a19 bulbs or the top is open so you can put a flood in for "spill"

This was a better deal at the philips store for new + discounted Hue tap for $25 with the first deal in April, and a few days ago only $15 extra for the tap.

I bought a starter kit at Bestbuy the other day. And - like everyone else, I'm now addicted to these things.
Thanks for all the input everyone, I pulled the trigger on 2 sets, and will sync them with my gen2 hub.

I do home performance work and can probably use these Gen1 hubs with white bulbs for some easy LED retrofits for folks.
