I've been enjoying all the fishing posts lately, so I figured I'd throw one out there. I bought one of the Cabela's Daiwa Legalis fishing reels yesterday and almost bought some of the Dick's Sporting Goods combos, but I held off. I saw this Walmart Outdoor Angler Spinning Reel on sale for $10.99 [walmart.com] with same day pickup in my area and figured I'd give it a try. It's down from $14.88.

It includes 7 bearings (6+1) and an anti-reverse system, multi-disc drag and 27 inch retrieve.

Here are the specs on it:

SMD3000 is one item made of dural graphite body and rotor.
Instant Anti-reverse system
Powerful and stable drag power to let you easily overpower the fish.
Very smooth gear grib for easy fishing
Double anodizing Forged-aluminum spool
Computer designed balance system to decrease wobbling
Provide excellence performance at Affordable Price
General Information:
MODEL NO:SMD3000 with clam shell package
Shipping weight 260g
Retrieve per Turn:27 inch/ 68.58 cm
Maximum Drag Power: 8KG
Line capacity(lbs-yds):6/220 8/170 10/140
Line capacity(mm-m):0.25/200 0.285/155 0.31/130

25 reviews on this reel give it 4.8 out of 5 stars, so I can't wait to try it out this afternoon. Hope you guys catch a bunch this weekend! It's going to be smoking hot in South Carolina, so I am going to load up on sunscreen, too.

I saw this in store a few weeks ago. I bought one just for kicks. Works fine! It's light duty, but you wouldn't expect more. You'll land panfish and the like just fine. I'd buy another for light duty.

Nice! I just picked up mine and am going to spool some braid on it to go try it out - and I like that blue. I may have to pick one of those up, too!

Thanks! I bought 2 of the 30 size reels. I will pick them up later... I volunteer my fishing equipment for a youth even at church for the end of the month, so these will help. They are then going back to Arkansas for some more fishing... Looking at the specks, I think they will come back with me rather than staying home with mom... I keep equipment there as well.

I hope you feel your kayak up... My kayak is sitting on my FJ in the office parking lot now... A friend of mine wanted to try the bay fishing behind the office, so I brought my saltwater stuff... I don't know why I have not fished on my lunches...

Take care and thanks for the deal!

This looks like a nice little reel. As I understand it, the more bearings, the better the reel performs. This reels says it has 7 bearings. The Daiwa Legalis that is still on SD, is on sale for $30 and has 5 bearings. I may have to pick up a couple of these for speck fishing and bait reels.

I picked up one these yesterday and got a chance to use it last night for a few hours. You will not find a better reel for the price. I like daiwa reels for the most part but this will serve its purpose well for light use

That's awesome! I work at our church, so I'm grateful for anybody helping others in His Name. I didn't get but a couple of bites, but it was BEAUTIFUL today.

I don't know if you have a fish finder, but I bought a MadBite FX3000 from Amazon the other day. I put a review video [youtu.be] up a while ago. It's $109.98 right now, and I think it's well worth it - it kept me out of some holes today that I would have probably stayed in hoping fish were in.

I haven't tried this reel, but if you're in this price range for a spinning reel you should also be considering the shimano ix series. They are unbreakable, functional, and they are dirt cheap. Less than 15 bucks.

FWIW, if you're going into Walmart to look for this reel, check to see if they have any Jimmy Houston Enticer rods. I just went on a fishing trip this past weekend, and stopped at Walmart for a couple last minute things. Saw these Jimmy Houston rods "normally $150" marked down to $60. One of them had a sticker for $30. Took it with me to the register and rang up at $15.

I stopped at another Walmart last night to see if they had any, and found about 6 of them, but they were all $60. I was told Walmart no longer price matched anything, so I didn't get any.

I can't find much information on these rods online, but for $15 it was a no brainer. I brought in largemouth and 30"+ pike on it all weekend.
