Stanley has an online promotion at Home Depot: "10 dollars off 50 dollars purchase of select Stanley items."
Home Depot has their usual free delivery policy on most purchases over $45.
Combine the three above:
1) Select Stanley Tool Set
2) Add Stanley item(s) to reach the $50 requirement. Because the added item is also discounted, the added value has to be slightly more than $.88. I chose the Stanley Mini-Scraper ($.66 discounted to $.53 each) and ordered two of them because I actually need these. There could be cheaper items to reach $50 but I stopped because my therapist is trying to convince me that "time is money too".
3) You can decide at this stage if you want to spend time calling or chatting with Customer Service in order to have the scrapers delivered to your home or pick-up at the store. And for those without a Home Depot nearby, I'd consider the option of not picking up the scrapers to save gas and time.
The sub-total drops to $40.44 after the $10 discount and your scrapers no longer qualify for free home delivery. You only see this at the second to the last step of check out where $7.99 shipping is added. I chatted with Customer Service and reasoned that I should not be penalized for Stanley's $10 discount promotion. They agreed. I finished the transaction (while the Customer Service Rep waited) and provided the order number for the Customer Service Rep to reverse the charges.
***If you do not want to spend time with Customer Service then you can select "home delivery" for the tool set and "pick-up at store" for the scraper. The total charge should be $40.44 plus tax.
Acknowledging that there are varying opinions on tools, including quality, "Buy Made in USA", return policies, etc, my promoting of this item and the merchant is based on my personal experience and policies relative to competitors.
- Stanley offers "lifetime warranty on hand tools". Written policy is for consumer to send item to Stanely.
- Unwritten policy (dependent on store, mood of the customer service rep, etc) - Home Depot has provided in-store exchange if purchased at Home Depot.
I've owned different hand tools and not one stands out as being better or outperforming another. And I can't recall specifically when a hand tool failed me but generally speaking, the hand tools that I broke were due to user error
This is my first Slickdeals post. Admittedly a frugal ("cheapskate" as referred by some) shopper who utilized Slickdeals for some time now, the guilt of not contributing finally has me posting. Unlike other noobs, I'm not asking for fellow Slickdeal'rs to "take it easy" or "be gentle"....if you want to play with the big boys (and girls), you gotta take your lumps. So especially to all the old school members, please feel free to add to the comments below.
Lastly, thanks to all the contributors on Slickdeals. You never fail to surprise me on the deals that are found. You've saved me time and money...but more importantly, I know that I'm not alone.
- Frugal, not cheap
